MUSIC MAGAZINE
 PRESENTATION
1. Who do you think the core target audience is for this products? Give
example to support your ideas.
Men and woman that are interested in music, ages around 21 + as its quite
sophisticated but yet still urban. I’d say its not a magazine for teenagers, it’s for
more mature people that are interested in music.

2. What information can you learn about the lifestyle profile/ interests of the core
target audience from the front cover. Give examples to support your ideas
From looking at this magazine I can tell that the targeted audience is people that tend to
like a wide variety of music, and people that want to know who to see live and what the
best albums are. They are also people who are interested reading about other peoples taste
in music by having celebrity interviews, so people that are interested in the artists as well as
the music.
3. What music magazine genre codes and conventions can you identify?
The magazine genre codes and conventions that you can identify are that Madonna
is on the front cover; she is reasonably old and her music will appeal to mature
women and not teenagers, so you can tell that the magazine is aimed at a more
                                   mature audience.
The way Madonna is posing by looking over her shoulder makes it look more
sophisticated and edgy. Madonna would appeal to women, so also on the front
cover there are cover stories on the Rolling Stones, Artic Monkeys, and interviews
by the Kaiser Chiefs so the magazine has a variety of different types of artists
shown that will appeal to both men and women who are interested in
                                  pop, rock, indie etc.

                4. What elements of the house style can you identify.
The colours used on the front cover are red, white and black, this is affective
because they are simple and sophisticated colours individually and when there all
put together it make the front cover look more edgy but without it being other the
                                        top.
Music genre conventions
The genre of this magazine is indie rock, you can see this
By looking at the front cover as The Wombats are an
Indie rock band, and all the other bands mentioned on
the cover page are also indie rock bands.

Music artists featured and the audience
They appeal to
The band on the front cover of this magazine are
The Wombats, they are an indie band that would
Appeal to a younger audience from ages 15+
That are interest in indie or mild rock
music like the vaccines, one night only etc.
Other artists that are mentioned are
Panic at the disco, Blur and muse, this shows
that this magazine would appeal To people that are
more interested in indie, rock bands as They are
the key artists that are shown on the front cover of this
Magazine. The ages of the target audience could as young as 15,
and as mature as 30 as each of these bands appeal to different ages.
Similarities and differences between
                                     the mise-en-scene
Both these front covers are different in ways and similar in others. The layout of both
magazines are similar as they are both organized, but the differences are that Q magazines
target audience is a lot more mature than NME so the style of the magazine is formal and
sophisticated where as NME is more informal as it appeals to a younger target audience.
The colours used on the front cover of Q are red, black and white which makes the
magazine look sophisticated but still urban, this is different to the colours use on NME as
they use larger variety of colours including bright yellow and blue, this makes the front
cover look more chaotic and it stands out a lot more.
                               Layout and style of language
The style of this magazine is informal, and would appeal to younger music lovers as the
colours use are bright yellow, blue, red, black and white so the magazine is quite in your face
their for its more appropriate for younger people. The layout is organized but by adding all
the bright colours it makes the magazine look more chaotic. The language is informal as the
magazine is aimed at younger people so it needs to attract them as a reader.
What overall techniques are used to make you read the complete magazine?
The magazine uses Buzz words like PLUS to sell the magazine to readers as they
think they get more for there money. On the front cover it says ‘the first
interview’, this attracts the reader because they think there reading the first
exclusive interview so again they feel like there getting more for their money.
                                  Mode of address
The mode of address for this magazine is informal as the target audience is
teenagers so they would prefer to read a magazine that has less formal language.
Special features and articles in both editions
Both magazines are similar in what they choose to write articles on as these are
music magazine they write about the best albums and although the genre of the
magazines aren't the same they are similar as they both write exclusive interviews
                            and are not gossip magazines.
