1. Jaundice
The definition of jaundice is, “yellow
discoloration of the skin and the whites of the
eyes”

2. Cause
• Jaundice can be caused by disorders of the
• -liver
• -gall bladder
• -pancreas
• It could also be caused by high levels of bilirubin in the
blood or something blocking the bile ducts
• When a baby is in the womb and the blood is not
compatible it can cause jaundice.
• New born liver starts slow
• -bruises sustained at birth, herpes
infection, hepatitis, mononucleosis

3. Symptoms
• Some of the symptoms that Jaundice causes are
• -yellowing in the eye whites and the skin
• -liver cannot process all the bilirubin produced
• -red blood cell life is shorter
• -makes you sleepy
• -Nausea, vomiting, pain in the abdomen, swelling
in the abdomen
• -Itching, dark colored urine, pale coloured feces

• There are two systems affected the Digestion
system and the Circulatory system.

5. Transmission
• Jaundice can not be transferred from one
person to another because it is not
contagious.

• -CT scanning
• -MRI
• -ERCP
• -Ultra sound scanning
• -Laparoscopy
• -Liver biopsy
• -Examination
• -dark urine
• -pale feces
• -press on forehead and if skin is white your okay if skin is yellow you
should get checked
• -questions suck as: Use of alcohol, use of herbal supplements, use of
medicines, abdominal surgery, HIV exposure, Family history of liver
disease

7. Treatment
• -Combination of various herbs and
homeopathic remedies
• -babies may receive photo therapy
• -Treat the underlying cause
• -If untreatable they will use treatments to
relieve symptoms suck as itching

8. Prognosis
• -Yellow skin and whites of eyes
• -Liver doesn’t work as well
• -Treatment to relieve some symptoms

9. People at risk
• People are more at risk if they abuse drugs or
alcohol because it is hard on the liver.

10. Prevention
• You can help and prevent yourself from
getting jaundice by treating your body with
care and don’t abuse drugs or alcohol. But
This will not help everyone.
