8. Erythema multiforme
• Hypersensitivity reaction
• Usually triggered by infection or drugs
• Targetoid skin lesion, many become bullous
• Usually self limiting, but recurrent form
• If mucous membranes involved known as
Stevens-Johnsons Syndrome
9. Toxic Epidermal necrolysis
• 80% due to drug reaction
• Severe, >30% skin detachment with positive
Nikolsky’s sign
• Mucous membrane involvement in 90%
• High mortality
• Intravenous immunoglobulins may provide
benefit
