Athens woman had to take care of their own kids, they also made their own food such as bread cheese and olives and they also made their own clothes. They could not go to the market alone. They honour their gods and they were very proud of being Greek. The woman in Athens were controlled by their father all there life before they became married. Babies were not given a name until their seventh or tenth day of life because many would not survive. If they were deformed they were abandoned (female babies were more abandoned then baby boys)some slaves from a different family would take them in. Athens government Democracy is a form of government which people could have their own say. Athens had a direct democracy between 508 and 322BC and were the first known. In about 510BC the Athens invented democracy. Each year 500 names were drawn out from all the citizens of Athens and they had to do a year of law makers. Each year all the citizens had to vote on any new laws that had come in. Women, children and slaves were not citizens so they could not vote only the men could. In Athens only men who were citizens could vote Pericles was the leader of Athens government for thirty years. The public in Athens voted him year after year. The word democracy came from the Greek word demos, meaning people to rule. The democracy government was used at a meeting place which the Greeks called assembly.
Sparta- daily life Sparta had the most power over Greece. Sparta did not produce any art or philosophy. Sparta were more war like and they liked fighting. At the age of 7 Spartan boys were removed from their parents and were put in dormitories to train to be soldiers. They slept on hard beds. All they would eat was black broth. They only spent a little amount of time learning music and literature. The strongest ones were made as captains for the soldiers. Spartan woman did not live with their husbands until the age that they were very old. When the babies were born the Spartan army would come to their house and examine the baby to find out its strength. They would be bathed in wine to see its reaction. If it was weak they would become slaves.
Sparta government Spartan government is an oligarchy. Oligarchy is a type of government which means power over a small group of people. Sparta was ruled by 2 kings. Those kings would lead people in the wars they had. One king lead army and the other ruled at home. The only way to become a citizen of Sparta was to be invaders who settled the city. An ephor was citizens who were over the age of 30. An ephor could put charges against anyone in Sparta including the city state kings. Spartan had a council that created all the laws. The council was made out of kings and twenty eight elders. The elder people had to be 60 or older to qualify for the spot.
Alexander the Great- personal info Alexander was born in July on the 20thin Pella in 356 BC. He was born on the same day that temple of Diana in Ephesus was burnt. Alexander the great died in Babylon in 323 BC of a illness in a palace in Babylon, at the age of 33. He’s full name is Alexander III of Macedon. He's mother’s name was Olympias and he’s father’s name was Phillip the second. Alexander had three wives named Roxana, Stateira the second and Parysatis. He also had two sons called Herakles and Alexander the fourth. Pella, where Alexander was born.

Alexander the great controlled the Persian empire and took his fathers place as king of Macedonia in 336BC and was a brilliant troop leader. Alexander was tutored by Aristotle who taught him literature, writing, science, medicine, and philosophy. Alexander declared war in Persia in 334BC. He defeated a Persian army near the city of Troy. He than travelled to southward to defeat king Darius, who was the leader of the main Persian army. The battle happened in 333BC. While he was at his daughters wedding he was murdered by the captain of his bodyguard. Alexanders greatest victory was the battle of Gaugamela, what is now called Iraq, in 331BC. Alexander led his army11,ooo miles to 70 different cities and created an empire that stretched across three continents and covered two million square miles.
Pericles Pericles was born in Athens in 495BC and died in Athens in 429BC of a plague. Pericles was 65 years old when he died. Pericles’ father’s name is xanthippus, his mother’s name is Agariste and he’s wife is Aspasia. Pericles was a supporter of democracy. He wanted all citizens to take part in politics. Pericles built temples and structures. One of them is the Parthenon on the Acropolis for the poorest citizens. Pericles was the best known statesman ever known. Pericles as a statesman had a rule in Athens which was called the Golden Age of Pericles. He was the son of the commander who defeated the Persians in the battle of Mycale in 479BC.
Pericles Pericles was an Athenian ruler and leader of Athens, which meant he was in charge of re-building Athens from the Persian wars. Pericles was the one to open up the Athenian democracy. Pericles’ job was to place the state in the hands of the citizens under the rule or law. In 448BC Pericles wanted to attack Sparta, so Pericles got all the citizens from their farms and around the city-state to hide between the walls for protection. About a year before Pericles died his own two sons died from the plague before him.
