The Stuart kings and queens By :Darling Hefftner
The House of the Stuart’s The house of Stuart ruled England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1603 until 1714. They ruled during the English Civil War as well as The Restoration period of Charles 11. Upon the death of Queen Elizabeth 1 in 1603, the English throne passed to The House of Stuart. http://ukirishhistory.suite101.com/
Continued Linked to The House of Tudor through Mary, Queen of Scots, and her grandmother, Margaret Tudor, The House of Stuart would rule England and Scotland for many years. Born in 1566, the first Stuart King, James became at one year old, upon forced abdication of his mother, Mary, Queen of Scots. (same as other)
James, the first King of Scots In 1603, James inherited the throne of England when his cousin Queen Elizabeth 1 died. James traveled south to England, where he remained most of his life. He never took to the lavish English court, preferring to dress simply and hunt. He married Anne of Denmark and had three children. He died in 1625 (same as other)
William Although the Stuarts had lost the throne, the dynasty continued in the person of James 11’s son, James Francis Edward(1688-1766), and his grandsons, one of whom was Charles Edward Stuart. William was not a healthy child, small, and thin, with a slightly hunched back, he suffered badly from asthma all his life. (Same as other)
Continued Tragically, William lost his mother when he was only nine years old. His future wife and cousin, Mary Stuart, was born at St. James Palace on the 30th of April, in 1622, the oldest daughter of the future James 11.http://www.englishmonarchs.couk/stuarrt_11.htm
William was left alone On a visit to England after The Restoration of his brother, Charles 11, his mother got smallpox and died there. Being left alone at his early age, he developed a strong sense of self reliance. William received a excellent education, and was brought up in Holland in the Protestant, Calvinist faith. http://www.englishmonarchs.couk/stuarrt_11.htm
Anne, the new Queen When Anne gave birth to a baby girl, no one would have guessed that she would be the next ruler of their English throne. Anne’s uncle, King Charles 11, spent his youth exiled in France after the English Civil War, wrested the throne from the Stuart family, and sent his father Charles 1 to the execution block. http://www.englishmonarchs.couk/stuarrt_11.htm
Mary, Queen of Scots Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots was born into a full of religious term oil. Early in her life she was a pawn in the battle between Protestantism and Catholicism. As time past she struggled for her independent and self-determination.
Mary and Charles Nearing the end of her life she was once again at the mercy of relatives and ultimately put to death by one of them. Charles pressed his families rights to the succession to the thrones of Britain. On a hereditary basis their claim was far superior to that of their Hanoverian cousins, but they were debarred from the throne by 1701 Act of succession. Anne, queen of England
