The student's work outlines how science is working to help the selected endangered Thai species of Kouprey. It identifies some conflicts between the Kouprey, environment, and humans. The work discusses the impact of supporting the Kouprey and presents required information in the correct format, including a research table. However, some key terms are used inaccurately and the bibliography requires improvement. This work would likely be assessed at Level 3.

1. Biodiversity in Thailand - under threat
Name: Fahsai Animal:Kouprey
Class : 7C Teacher:
Task:
You are a biologist working for the natural history museum in Bangkok. The
museum is preparing a series of audio visual presentations called:
“ENDANGERED SPECIES OF THAILAND”
The museum needs to know:
· the common name (s) of your chosen animal in English (and maybe Thai)
· the scientific name of the animal
(This will be a binomial name. (Two words usually in Latin))
· A description of thecharacteristics of the animal.
· Relevant background information about the lifestyle and habits of the animal
· where the animal is found in Thailand and around the world
(the distribution and habitat of the animal)
The museum also needs to know:
· why the animal is endangered?
(you should explain in detail what the main risks and threats are to their species)
· what are scientists or voluntary organizations or politicians or environmentalists
doing to help?
(you should include some of the difficulties they face in trying to protect the
species)
· what could we do? (you should use your own ideas here)
Process:
· Research your species using a variety of sources
· Make notes on the worksheet provided (This will be assessed)
· Present your information for a special Thai Endangered Species in an Audio Visual
method of your choice.
Audio Visual
· The audio visual presentation is aimed at young people (10- 14 years old) so the
Presentation: information must be explained as clearly and simply as possible.
·The presentation must be in a format that can be uploaded to your personal
blog.
· The assessment will be based on the primarily on the research table and your
overall final product.
Legal The museum must publish where the information has come from so you must write
a correct BIBLIOGRAPHY. Use Easybib to get the correct format.
requirements: You must also use in text citations.

3. Locating Information
Where will you go to find information on your endangered species?
You might want to try some of the following resources. There are 3 kinds of resources
below so make sure you use a variety—not just one type!
Books:
Tropical Wildlife of Thailand and SE Asia
Tropical Birds of Thailand
Reef Fish of Thailand
Large Mammals of Thailand
Marine Fishes of South East Asia
A Field Guide to the Birds of Thailand
Wildlife in the Kingdom of Thailand
Thailand‟s Vanishing Fauna and Flora
A Photographic Guide to the Mammals of Thailand and South-East Asia
Encyclopedia:
World Book Online (Online, via the Library Portal Site)

Thai Society for the Conservation of Wild Animals: http://www.tscwa.org/

4. You are encouraged to add columns (other sources ).
Facts (cut and pastes) must be in “quotation marks” otherwise write the key
points in your OWN words.
This will assessed so use key terms correctly and fill in the table in detail.

6. Organizing Your Information
Now that you‟ve collected all of the information you need to complete your project,
it‟s time to organize it so that your podcast is clear and relevant.
Some questions you might want to consider:
Have I answered all of my questions?
Do I need to use all of the information I have collected?
How will I organize my notes into a logical structure?
My Plan:
- What will the structure be?
- How many sections are there?
- Make a visual plan of your podcast using boxes, a flow chart, a mind map or
whatever suits your podcast.
7. Tips for organizing your text
At the word level:
Generalised language:
Written mostly in the present tense because the information is general and
ongoing
Generalised participants:
This means you can refer to something in the plural form (Tigers live…. etc) or in
the singular form using „the‟ (Thetiger lives... etc). Try to be consistent; if you choose
to use the plural, then stick with it for the rest of the podcast where possible.
The passive voice:
This is because sometimes an action has nothing or nobody responsible for it
(e.g. Tigers are found in...or The tiger‘s body is divided into…. ). Notice also the use of
the apostrophe „s‟ to show the possession of something. You will need to use this
sometimes if you choose the singular form to describe the features that „belong‟ to
the animal.
Use of scientific vocabulary:
You will need to use scientific words to describe your animal (limbs not arms,
paws not feet if appropriate)
Descriptive language:
You will need to use a range of adjectives for such features as colour and shapes
(triangular, round, rectangular), and nouns for patterns (stripes, rosettes, scales) and
physical features (fur, beak, feathers),
At the text level:
Your podcast is an information report. Use the scaffold below to help you organize
the podcast:
A general opening statement in the first paragraph
This statement tells the audience what the podcast is going to be about.
This can include a short description of the subject.
This can include a definition of the subject.
A series of paragraphs about the subject
Each paragraph usually begins with a topic sentence.
The topic sentence at the beginning of each paragraph pre-views the
information contained in the rest of the paragraph.
The sentences after this preview give more details.
Each paragraph should give information about one feature of the subject.
These paragraphs build a description of the subject of the podcast.
These paragraphs may include technical language that is related to the
subject.
