1. VISION A premier university in CALABARZON, offering academic programs and related services designed to respond to the requirements of the Philippines and the global economy, particularly, Asian countries. MISSION AND MAIN THRUST The University shall primarily provide advanced education, professional, technological and vocational instruction in agriculture, fisheries, forestry teacher education, medicine, law, arts and sciences, information technology and other related fields. It shall also undertake research and extension services, and provide a progressive leadership in its areas of specialization.

2. The Goals of College of Education In the pursuit of college mission the institute of education is committed to develop the full potentials of the individuals and equipped them with the necessary knowledge skills and attitudes in the teacher education and the hospitality industry program and allied field to effective responds to the increase demands challenges and opportunities of changing times for global teacher.

3. OBJECTIVES In view of the above, the University shall strive to implement programs and projects that shall: Transmit and disseminate knowledge and skills relevant to emerging manpower needs; Discover and disseminate new knowledge/technology needed by a developing community; Establish model livelihood projects that will radiate through its service area; Enhance, preserve, and disseminate national culture and sports; Provide the disadvantaged members of society with equal opportunities for advancement; Produce progressive leaders, professionals, skilled, and semi-skilled manpower for national development; and stress the development of a well rounded personality and a strong moral character and the cultivation of virtues.

4. PREFACE Dear Readers, Welcome to the world of fairy tales……. This module in titled “Fairy tales: Teaching tool for values education” is a part of CHED- prescribed new teacher education curriculum that is reflective of national competence-based teacher standard. Teaching Values Education is not easy especially for the grades school teacher. This module desired that the student shall develop their competence, skills, and values. Special feature of this module includes: 1. Each chapter teaches specific Values that one should have like “love yourself”. 2. This module use simple but meaningful story that children will loved 3. Each page has a colorful picture that the grade school pupil will enjoy. 4. Every story has a moral lesson that helps the teacher in teaching Values Education. 5. FOREWORD This Teacher’s Guide Module entitled “Fairy tale: As a teaching tools for values education” is part of the requirements in Educational Technology 2 under the revised education curriculum for Bachelor in Elementary Education based on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO)-30, Series of 2004. Educational Technology 2 is a three (3)-unit course designed to introduce both traditional and innovative technologies to facilitate and foster meaningful and effective learning where students are expected to demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature, application and production of the various types of educational technologies. The students are provided with guidance and assistance of selected faculty members of the College through the selection, production and utilization of appropriate technology tools in developing technology-based teacher support materials. Through the role and functions of computers especially the Internet, the student researchers and the advisers are able to design and develop various types of alternative delivery systems.

8. These kinds of activities offer a remarkable learning experience for the education students as future mentors especially in the preparation of instructional materials. The output of the group’s effort may serve as an educational research of the institution in providing effective and quality education. 12. The Ugly Duckling Mother duck hatches her eggs and, while most of her ducklings are normal, one is grey, too large, and too clumsy to fit in among the others. Though she tries to accept him, the entire barnyard realizes that he simply does not belong and after a period of harassment he leaves to fend for himself. He wanders for the entire summer and fall, for no one will take him in, and he nearly freezes to death in an icy pond. Though he is rescued by a human, he cannot live in captivity, and he goes back to the wild. By the end of winter he is miraculously still alive. He comes to a pond in a park or garden, where beautiful white swans are swimming. He is drawn to their beauty, though he has no reason to think that they will treat him better than anyone else has. Still, he thinks, even if they kill him, he must approach them. To his surprise, the beautiful creatures welcome and accept him; gazing at his reflection, he sees that he too is a swan. The children declare that he is the most beautiful swan of them all, yet he is not proud, for a good heart is never proud. Because of all that he suffered he now appreciates his happiness so much more.

13. Activity 1.1How to Make a Swan Puppet Here is what you need: Two 9-inch paper plates White adult- sock Black adult-size sock White and orange construction paper Scissors Black marker White craft feathers Stapler and staples White glue

14. Here is what you do: 1. Fold two paper plates in half. Staple the edges of the two sides of the folded plates together. This will be the body of the swan. 2. Trace your hands on white paper. Cut the hand shapes out for wings. Glue a wing on each side of the plates. Glue some feathers on the wings. 3. Cut eyes from the white paper. Draw a pupil in the center of each eye. Glue the eyes onto either side of the toe of the white sock. 4. Staple the two sides of the open end of the white sock to the inside of the swan body. 5. To make the duckling, fold a piece of orange paper in half. 6. Cut a long beak with the back of the beak on the fold. Staple the beak to the toe end of the black sock and add some white paper eyes. 7. Cut a 2 ½ inch slit in the end of the white sock. 8. Turn the ugly duckling into a swan. Put the black sock on your hand. Slide the white swan body all the way over the black sock, so that the beak sticks out of the cut end of the white sock, giving the bird the black mask of an adult swan.

15. Activity 1.2Write a Letter to the Ugly Duckling Give the students a worksheet (a letter template) with the following instructions at the top. Instructions to Students Situation: The Ugly Duckling is your best friend. He lives far away from you. He writes you a letter. He tells you that the other ducklings are mean to him. They make fun of him and pick on him all the time. They call him names and tell him that he is ugly. No one will play with him. He feels very sad and lonely. Write a letter to the Ugly Duckling. Tell him three things to make him feel better. Let him know that you care.

17. Thumbelina Once, a woman grew a barleycorn in her garden, so beautiful that when she kissed the petals of the bloom, it burst into a flower and a tiny but beautiful girl emerged. The woman named her Thumbelina, as she was no bigger than the woman's thumb. (How the woman comes by the tiny girl is different in each adaption.) The girl's beauty soon attracted the attention of a frog. She believed Thumbelina would make a good bride for her son, so she kidnapped the girl in the middle of the night, and delivered her to her son. The son was immediately enchanted by Thumbelina's beauty, and left her on a lily pad. However, Thumbelina managed to find help. Fish gnawed away the root of the lily pad, and a butterfly offered to pull her to safety with one of Thumbelina's ribbons as a harness. Before she could be freed however, a beetle grabbed Thumbelina off the lily and took her away, leaving the butterfly to die as he was too fragile to break free of the ribbon.

18. The beetle, who was also enchanted by Thumbelina, brought her back to his family, but the female beetle declared she was ugly, and so they abandoned her as a result. Starving in the cold of winter, the little girl was then found by a field mouse, who took care of her. Because the mouse believed that she was indebted to him, the girl soon found herself engaged to a mole. The wedding would take place in spring, once the last snow thawed. Unhappy that she must marry the mole, Thumbelina went to the see the flowers one last time, knowing the mole disliked the beauty of the upper world and would confine her to the ground below. A bird flew by and saw Thumbelina's distress, so he offered to take her away to a better world. She agreed and the bird took her far away to a field of flowers, where he told her to choose a flower to claim as her own. Thumbelina found a flower, but discovered another person present, the prince of fairies. Enchanted by her beauty, he asked to marry her, and the little girl agreed. She was renamed Maya by the prince (as the name Thumbelina is not beautiful enough for a girl like her) and given a pair of wings so she may fly with her new husband.

19. Activity 2.1Sizing Things Up Thumbelina’s size gets in her way, but brings her happiness in the end. There are certain things Thumbelina can do because of her size - like ride on the back of a bird. There are also certain things Thumbelina cannot do because of her size - like escape from the lily pad. Make a list of things that you can do because of your size and things that you cannot do because of your size. 20. Just Think About This Be proud of ourselves. Don't let anyone critic or reduce our personality. Nobody ever knows tomorrow; remember that after the rain the sun always come. So, be proud of ourselves and the rest will come by itself.

21. SAY A LITTLE PRAYER Dear God, “We are creation of God. Like animals and trees God made us unique and beautiful we have to thank Him for the gifts we receive and we have to value it, like the way He value us.” Amen.

22. Pinocchio Once upon a time there was a woodcarver, called Geppetto who lived without a child. So he decided to make a puppet, naming 'Pinocchio’ like a real boy. As he began to carve the wood, in surprise him, Pinocchio laughed at him. When Geppetto was getting finished, the puppet kicked the old man and ran-out of the door. As Pinocchio was running on the street, a policeman got custody him. But people said to the policeman that puppet belongs to Geppetto.So the policeman arrested the old man instead of Pinocchio. Pinocchio had to remain alone at home. When he rest in his bed a talking cricket advised to be listen to his father otherwise, sorry in later. Then Pinocchio felt hungry so, he tried to cook an egg. As it put on hot pan a little chicken flew away. Then he sat by fire and began to sleep when Geppetto came to house.

23. The old man saw the puppet's feed had burnt. He fed some pears to Pinocchio saying-"I'll make you new feet and some clothes to go school like real boy." Geppetto was so poor because he had to sell his coat for Pinocchio's text book. On the school way, Pinocchio heard some exciting music came from a puppets show. He went there and joined its show with them. At first the puppet master angry with Pinocchio but later more friend with him and gave five gold coins to Pinocchio. As Pinocchio set off for home, a fox and cat came to steal his money. He escaped frame them, by climbing a tall oak tree. Luckily Pinocchio rescued by a beautiful blue fairy that lived nearby. The fairy asked about his coins. He said that he had lost his money. Then his nose began to grow longer and longer. The fairy laughed.” that what happens when you tell lies" she said.

24. But he wanted to become real boy, he asked for help from the fairy. The fox and cat met again to Pinocchio and did steal his coins. When he asked from a policeman about it, he arrested Pinocchio. Meanwhile the old man went to sea for look Pinocchio, but his ship wrecked in a storm. When Pinocchio was let out of prison, he had to fun with bad boys. They all became donkeys. As Pinocchio work as donkey in Toyland, his leg had broken. And throw in to the sea. As soon as he hit to the water Pinocchio turned into the puppet again. In the bottom of the sea, a huge fish swallowed Pinocchio, amazed to see Gapped also in its belly. The blue fairy had been watching them, turned to Pinocchio a real boy. At last the old man and Pinocchio became delight and lived happily long.

25. Activity 3.1Ask your conscience Jiminy Cricket represents the conscience he reminds Pinocchio what is right and what is wrong. Rea the sentence below, check if you think it’s right and put x if it’s wrong. * Pinocchio is the young wood puppet who yearns to be a real boy, and gets in quite a bit of trouble by not being obedient, fibbing, talking to strangers, picking the wrong company, and not listening to Jiminy Cricket, his conscience. * The Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life and says to him: "be brave, truthful and unselfish and you will become a real boy someday." Discussing what is brave, truthful and unselfish is easier by using examples in the movie, you may want to rewind the movie to show the meaning of these words. * Geppetto is the loving father that loves Pinocchio even when he gets in trouble, unconditional love.

26. The Little Match Girl On a cold New Year’s Eve, a poor girl tries to sell matches in the street. She is freezing badly, but she is afraid to go home because her father will beat her for not selling any matches. She takes shelter in a nook and lights the matches to warm her. In their glow, she sees several lovely visions including a Christmas tree and a holiday feast. The girl looks skyward, sees a shooting star, and remembers her deceased grandmother saying that such a falling star means someone died and is going into Heaven. As she lights her next match, she sees a vision of her grandmother, the only person to have treated her with love and kindness. She strikes one match after another to keep the vision of her grandmother nearby for as long as she can. The child dies and her grandmother

27. She carries her soul to Heaven. The next morning, passers-by find the dead child in the nook, with rosy red cheeks and a smile on her face. They express sadness at her death and the burnt-out matches she must have used to warm herself, but they cannot know the wonderful visions she saw in her final moments or how gloriously she is celebrating the New Year with her grandmother.

30. Cinderella Once upon a time there lived an unhappy young girl. Her mother was dead and her father had married a widow with two daughters. Her stepmother didn't like her one little bit. All her kind thoughts and loving touches were for her own daughters. Nothing was too good for them - dresses, shoes, delicious food, soft beds, and every home comfort. But, for the poor unhappy girl, there was nothing at all. No dresses, only her stepsisters’ hand-me-downs. No lovely dishes, nothing but scraps. No rest and no comfort. She had to work hard all day. Only when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders. That’s why everybody called her Cinderella.

31. Cinderella used to spend long hours all alone talking to the cat. The cat said, Meow. , which really meant,. Cheer up! You have something neither of your stepsisters has and that is beauty... It was quite true. Cinderella, even dressed in old rags, was a lovely girl. While her stepsisters, no matter how splendid and elegant their clothes, were still clumsy, lumpy and ugly and always would be. One day, beautiful new dresses arrived at the house. A ball was to be held at the palace and the stepsisters were getting ready to go. Cinderella didn't even dare ask if she could go too. She knew very well what the answer would be, you? You're staying at home to wash the dishes, scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters. They will come home tired and very sleepy.. Cinderella sighed. Oh dear, I'm so unhappy! And the cat murmured. Meow.

32. Suddenly something amazing happened. As Cinderella was sitting all alone, there was a burst of light and a fairy appeared. . Don't be alarmed, Cinderella, said the fairy. I know you would love to go to the ball. And so you shall! How can I, dressed in rags? Cinderella replied. . The servants will turn me away! The fairy smiled. With a flick of her magic wand Cinderella found herself wearing the most beautiful dress she had ever seen. . Now for your coach, said the fairy; "A real lady would never go to a ball on foot! Quick! Get me a pumpkin! Oh of course, said Cinderella, rushing away. Then the fairy turned to the cat. . You, bring me seven mice, and, remember they must be alive! Cinderella soon returned with the pumpkin and the cat with seven mice he had caught in the cellar. With a flick of the magic wand the pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the mice became six white horses, while the seventh mouse turned into a coachman in a smart uniform and carrying a whip. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes.

33. Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball until she heard the first stroke of midnight! She remembered what the fairy had said, and without a word of goodbye she slipped from the Prince. arms and ran down the steps. As she ran she lost one of her slippers, but not for a moment did she dream of stopping to pick it up! If the last stroke of midnight were to sound... oh... what a disaster that would be! Out she fled and vanished into the night. The Prince, who was now madly in love with her, picked up the slipper and said to his ministers, “Go and search everywhere for the girl whose foot this slipper fits. I will never be content until I find her!” So the ministers tried the slipper on the foot of every girl in the land until only Cinderella was left. That awful untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball, snapped the stepmother. . Tell the Prince he ought to marry one of my two daughters! Can't you see how ugly Cinderella is? But, to everyone’s amazement, the shoe fitted perfectly.

As for the cat, he just said "Miaow!"

40. Jack and the Bean Stalk Jack and his mother were very poor. They had to sell their cow. Jack sold the cow for some beans. When he took the beans home his mother was so mad that she threw them out the window. The next morning there was a giant beanstalk that had grown up to the sky. Jack climbed up the beanstalk. He found a castle. The giant’s wife let Jack in and fed him some supper. When the giant came home she hid Jack. The giant ate his supper and then asked for his magic hen that laid golden eggs. When the giant fell asleep Jack ran home with the hen. Jack and his mother became rich with the golden eggs from the magic hen. Jack went back two more times. The first time he brought back a bag of gold coins. The second time when he went to take the magic harp, the harp started to sing and woke up the giant. The giant ran after Jack. Jack climbed down the beanstalk and chopped it down before the giant could catch him. Jack and his mother lived happily ever after.

44. LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD Once upon a time there was a lovely sweet girl who is loved by one and all. Everyone calls the girl Little Red Riding Hood as she always wears a riding hood made of red velvet, which was gifted to her by her grandmother. One fine day, Little Red Riding Hood's mother packs a bottle of wine and a cake in a basket and asks her to take them to her sick grandmother. Before she leaves, her mother warns her not to talk to anyone on the way. Little Red Riding Hood promises her that she wouldn't and sets off to her grandmother's place, which was put up in the forest, half an hour’s walk from the village. When Little Red Riding Hood enters the forest, she comes across a wolf, which plans to eat her up. So when the wolf asks her where she is off to, she answers him that she is on her way to see her grandmother, without suspecting the wolf. When the wolf asks her where her grandmother lives, Little Red Riding Hood innocently answers that too.

45. The wolf trots along with Little Red Riding Hood for some time and tempts her to make a slow journey, asking her to enjoy the scenery. Little Red Riding Hood leaves the path and starts picking flowers and as she does so, she goes deeper and deeper into the forest. Meanwhile, the big bad wolf reaches grandmothers house and knocks the door. He enters the house and gobbles Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother. Then, he puts on the grandmothers clothes and night cap and lies down in her bed. Little Red Riding Hood soon realizes that she is late and hurries to her grandmother's house. She reaches the house and finds the front door wide open.

46. She makes her way towards the bed, to see her grandmother looking very strange. "Grandmother, what big ears you have!" she asks. "The entire was better to hear you with," the wolf replies.” "Grandmother, what big eyes you has!" she asks. "The entire was better to see you with," the wolf replies”. "Grandmother, what big hands you have!" she asks. "the entire better to hold you with," the wolf replies. "But grandmother, what big teeth you have!" she asks. "The entire better to eat you with," the wolf replies, and leaps out of the bed and swallows Little Red Riding Hood. After that, the wolf gets back to the bed and starts sleeping. After a while, a passing huntsman hears the loud snores and goes inside the house, to find a wolf sleeping on the bed. He immediately cuts open the wolf's stomach with a pair of scissors. Then Little Red Riding Hood pops out in wolf's stomach, followed by her grandmother. They then fill the wolf's stomach with stones and sew it. The wolf wakes up and tries to run, but falls down dead instead. The grandmother drinks the wine and eats the cake and feels much better and the story ends with Little Red Riding Hood promising her grandmother that she would never again leave the path when her mother has forbidden it.

48. Just Think About This Obedience means following the request of the people whom we respect and love by following their request and instruction, we show them that we love and trust them. By being obedient, we do not only make the people around us happy. We also learn a lot from the tasks assigned to us. We become a big help to our parent, other family member and to our teacher.

49. SAY A LITTLE PRAYER Dear God, “Make us loving children to our parent, teachers and elder. Give us the willingness to help them by being obedient.” Amen.

50. Sleeping Beauty Once upon a time, a queen gave birth to a lovely baby. There was a big celebration throughout the kingdom. Three fairies were invited to the celebration. Each of the fairies gave the baby a special gift. A wicked fairy suddenly appeared before them she was very angry she had not been invited to the celebration. She would prick her finger in a spinning wheel and die before her sixteenth birthday. “What are we going to do?” the queen asked the three fairies. “Please help us,” pleaded the king to the fairies.

The princess pricked her finger and fell to the floor. The three good fairies came to rescue. They put everyone in the kingdom into a deep sleep. The news of a beautiful sleeping princess reached a handsome prince. He fought his way to the castle to see the princess. When the prince kissed the princess, she woke up and so did everyone in the kingdom. A royal wedding followed.

54. Snow White A long time ago, a child was born to a queen and king and she was called Snow White. When the queen died, the king married again. This new queen was wicked and hated Snow white. The queen gave orders that Snow White was to be treated as a servant.Snow White grew very beautiful and one day a Prince riding by, saw her at work and fell in love with her. The queen was beautiful too, and every day she asked her Magic Mirror, "Who is the fairest in the land?" and the mirror always answered, "You are the fairest one of all". But one day the mirror answered Snow White was the fairest in the land, and in a rage the queen gave orders to one of her Huntsmen to take Snow White into the woods and kill her. The Huntsman had a kind heart and couldn't do the deed so told her to run away. She fled into the woods where seven little dwarfs lived. Their house was small and strange.

55. Snow White entered the little house and finding it very untidy, started to clean up. Upstairs she found seven little beds. She was very tired and stretching out on one of the beds, was soon asleep. When the Dwarfs came home they were surprised to find Snow White and after some argument, decided to let her stay. She promised to cook and look after them. The Queen discovered where Snow White was living and disguising herself as a witch, took a poisoned apple and set out for the Dwarfs cottage. She gave Snow White the poisoned apple to eat and as soon as she bit the apple, she sank into unconsciousness. Thinking she was dead, the Dwarfs built a glass coffin and put her in it. For days she lay in the forest in her glass coffin. One day, the Prince was riding through the forest looking for Snow White and found her. He leaned over and kissed her. She opened her eyes and sat up with a smile. Everyone was happy. The Prince took Snow White to his palace where they were married and lived happily ever after.

56. Activity 8.1 Snow White Toilet Paper Roll Craft This is a cute and simple color, cut and paste craft that uses a toilet paper roll as a base to give it a three dimensional effect. Materials: a top roll, printer, glue, scissors, something to color with a piece of paper Instructions: Print out the template of choice -- template 2 is optional Color the pieces as appropriate and cut them out. Glue the large rectangular piece around the toilet paper tube. If using template 2 (the skirt), form it into a cone and slide it over the toilet paper roll at this time. You can use a bit of glue around the "belt area" to hold it on, but I usually just let it sit on loosely. Glue the head onto the top of the top roll. Glue the arms on the side. Glue the feet onto the bottom of the top roll, bending the tabs to make a 3D effect. Fold the cape in half and glue it together (so it's colored on both sides). Then glue it to the back of the top roll. If using template 2, glue the bird onto one of the hands.
