Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB ) is the national and international centre of competence for initial and continuing vocational education and training in Germany, and contributes to the improvement of vocational education and training by means of research, advisory services and development. Target groups: policy, research, practice, general audience   Section 1.4 – Advisory Services and International Cooperation
Areas of responsibility and tasks of BIBB Drawing up concepts for the qualification of in-company training staff Support of in-company training practice via modern training documentation and media Investigation of the structural developments on the training places market and within continuing training Identification of future qualification requirements by early recognition of these Development and modernisation of initial and advanced training occupations International research and VET cooperation Promotion of modern vocational training centres to supplement in-company initial and continuing vocational education and training Section 1.4 – Advisory Services and International Cooperation

  1. German VET aims at enabling young people to obtain occupations and to support their personal development. Hereby, Germany follows an approach which combines both, education and employability. This finds its institutionalisation in the model of public-private partnership in VET, which is one of its well-known main characteristics. What does Public private partnership mean? The state organises the dialogue in which the state, trade and industry and the social partners reach agreements on all kinds of matters related to vocational education and training. What is this good for? As the industry and employers are involved and integrated into the further development of VET, decisions meet with broad acceptance. Consideration is given to the requirements of the labour market. Further, the companies are involved in the financing of vocational education and training. They take over two thirds of the costs of training and corresponding to the financial engagement or as a compensation, trade and industry has a significant impact on the structuring of content and standards.
  2. Training profile: the occupational skills, knowledge and abilities to be taught, as a minimum, during the course of the initial vocational training. Framework training plan: an outline of the syllabus and time allocations to be followed for the purpose of teaching the occupational skills, knowledge and abilities
