1. Driving while distracted is a very dangerous activity.
However, most of us are guilty of driving while distracted.
It doesn't mean we are all a bunch of bad drivers. What
are some of the worst distractions that we deal with while
we are driving? Knowing what distracts you can help you
avoid those distractions in the future.
3. Talking on your cell phone while driving your car is bad
enough. Trying to text on your phone while you are driving
is downright dangerous. Scores of people have been killed
because the driver was distracted because of a text
message. No text message should take your focus off the
road. Use a hands-free device if you need to use your
phone while you are in the car. You could very easily get
pulled over for not using a hands-free device for your
phone.
5. Your friends could be among the worst distractions while
you are driving. Make sure that your friends understand
that your focus needs to be on the road at all times. Never
allow your friends to take the wheel, cover your eyes or
cause you to take your eyes off the road. You don't want
to go off the road because you friend wanted to show you
a video on his phone.
7. We all have had times where something we need is just
out of our reach. You know that you don't need your
phone right now, but you also don't want you phone to fall
too far under the seat. The effort you take to save your
phone could take your focus off of the road. The safe thing
is to always pull over to the side of the road if you need to
secure anything in your car. You don't want to get into a
crash because you were reaching for your soda.
9. Not knowing where you are going could cause you to focus
too much on road signs. This is made much easier if you
have a GPS in your car. However, you shouldn't be
fumbling around with a map each time you make a wrong
turn. Most drivers can get their bearings back simply by
driving around until they see a familiar road. Focusing too
much on road signs can cause you to lose focus on other
drivers and pedestrians in the street. Look for a gas station
where you can get directions if you are really lost.
11. Driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol can
be quite a distraction. It is usually quite difficult to focus
on the road while you are drunk. The police will be able to
tell if you have been drinking. Always avoid getting behind
the wheel if you have been drinking or using drugs.
12. There are many ways that a driver can be distracted while
driving on the road. Drivers should be focused on the road
at all times while behind the wheel. One small mistake can
cause you thousands of dollars worth of damage to your
car. Getting into an accident can also cause your insurance
rates to go up on your next policy. Save yourself the
headache by not allowing yourself to get distracted when
you're behind the wheel.
