world and the mission of universities in its
implementation

2. IntroductionIntroduction
• Education is a dynamical, heterogenic and complex
activity and many actors are related to it.
• There are many processes, phenomena and
institutions with goals related to “Education”.
• We can talk about formal, non formal and informal
education environments.
5. Lifelong Learning
Lifelong Learning concept:
“All learning activity undertaken throughout life,
which results in improving knowledge, know-
how, skills, competences and/or qualifi cations
for personal, social and/or professional
reasons.”(CEDEFOP, European Centre for the
Development of Vocational Training, 2004)
8. Lifelong Learning
Role of Universities in Lifelong Learning:
• Offer the appropriate training opportunities,
responding to the needs of current society,
especially in terms of demands of the Labor
Market, involving stakeholders in the
curricular design and development (SME,
national and local governments, public and
private organizations, etc.)
9. Lifelong Learning
Role of Universities in Lifelong Learning:
• Use tools and strategies in the training
pathways that allow for the recognition and
certification of informal non-formal learning.
10. Lifelong Learning
Role of Universities in Lifelong Learning:
• Knowledge transfer and social responsibility,
creating cooperative networks between
social, economic, political and stakeholders,
drawing up plans that provide different
options, if possible, tailored to individual or
group needs.
(Third mission of universities, UNESCO)
13. ALFA TRALL PROJECT
TRALL is a multinational research project funded
by the ALFA III Program.
This project, participated by a consortium of 20
institutions of HEI (15 Latin American and 5
for Europe), intends to realize and experiment
different curricular experiences in Lifelong
Learning, involving different local stakeholders
and fostering a process able to reflect
institutional and societal needs, in order to be
effective actors in lifelong learning.
18. ALFA TRALL PROJECT
• Expected results
• Short-mid term result (during the project lifespan):
setting up a fruitful dialogue between HEIs, SMEs
and Social and Educational Institutions, on shared
analysis and best practice examples from the EU and
the LA contexts, giving impetus to LLL curricula
design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and
promotion through piloting curricula.
19. ALFA TRALL PROJECT
• Expected results
• Long term expected results: enhancing the relation
between HEIs and local and regional contexts,
developing constructive and collaborative dialogues
and providing the professionals required and at the
same time attracting more sources of funding from
the entrepreneurial context. Policy makers,
governments, in particular the Ministries of
Education, are expected to enhance strong
connections and gain a prominent role in the LLL
education at HEI level.
20. ALFA TRALL PROJECT
• TRALL is organized in several Work Packages:
• WP1: Management
• WP2: State of the Art
• WP3: Methodological Framework
• WP4: Design and implementation of prototype
model of LLL curricula
• WP5: ICT, e-learning and blended learning
models
21. ALFA TRALL PROJECT
• WP6: Evaluation
• WP7: Credits and competences
• WP8: Quality Assurance in LLL
• WP9: Dissemination of the results
• WP10: Exploitation of the results
23. ALFA TRALL PROJECT
• Pilots programs made in Universidad de Los
Andes:
– Communication competences and Leadership in
University indigenous students.
– Operation and control of Radio Station.
– Problems in research activities (for Master
Students).
24. Final Remarks
There is an amazing world, related to Lifelong
Learning, waiting for us.
It’s a great opportunity for participating in the
development of a better tomorrow, using the
education and knowledge as the best tools for
creating it. Let’s go for it!!!.
