- Newport is about an hour and a half south of Boston and is known as the “City by the Sea”. The city is internationally known as a destination for recreational boating and yachting, Naval Station Newport and the Naval War College, beaches and access to the ocean along the famous Cliff Walk, its historic colonial-era neighborhoods, as well as the opulent gilded-age mansions.
