1 . In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Soap Trailer Name and times In most soap trailers they will always say the time and name of the show, some are done with over voices however my research shows that teenage drama soaps such as mine are mostly shown on channels such as E4. Looking at how E4 create their trailers, they mostly use a group shot at the end with the E4 logo with the time and name of the show. Therefore I used this convention in our trailer. Music Music is new soap trailers will usually use modern music that fits the genre. I decided to use Jimmy Eat World – The Middle, this is a modern alternative song, with high energy. Editing Existing short soap trailers like mine made for TV adverts range between 30 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds, therefore I made mine around 1 minute. Existing soaps trailers use quick edits with short sequences to create impact, drama and enigmas to compelling the audience into wanting to watch the show which is what I have done in our trailer. 1 . In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (Slide 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) Use : As you can see from the past 6 slides I have found the normal conventions in soap trailers, TV magazines and soap poster and I have based my products on these features. These include storylines, camera angles, camera movement, title (name and time), music editing, layouts, pictures, effects, captions, and other features, these all make the codes and conventions of existing soap trailers, TV magazines, and soap posters, I have used these in my products so that mine looks professional and realistic. Challenge and develop: I have took a risk when making my magazine because I did research into different TV magazines, and while most of them did not use a “glow” effect around the main characters, “TV easy” does, and therefore I developed this in my magazine because I thought it made my magazine look more professional and appealing. I also challenged codes and convention in my soap poster. Most of my inspiration was from a “One Tree Hill” poster that I though matched the genre and atmosphere in my trailer. This included cropping into images of the main characters to emphasises their facial expression to create a dramatic atmosphere, I also edited the background black and used a gradient effect to make the character fade to make the poster seem more dramatic. However this is different to most other soap poster, however I think it would make mine stand out and look more appealing to it’s audience.
2 . How effective is the combination of your main product to your ancillary texts? Audience I think the target audience of teenagers between 13-19 years old, both genders are targeted well throughout our products. All the products use teenager representations with storylines that they can relate to. Genre Our genre for our trailer is teenager drama soap, you can see this through the way I created enigmas and drama through the trailer, the drama I used the same main character from the soap trailer in the magazine and poster. I also carried the storylines in the trailer in to the magazine, these can also been seen in the poster. E.g. the pretend argument between Anna and Cathy fighting, is the main feature in the magazine and you can still see the pretend hated in Cathy while she's looking towards Ann in the poster. However because of casting difficulties I could not use the people/actors I used in the soap trailer in my poster and magazine. I did this to the best of my abilities and used most of the same people however I had the use extra people that weren't in the trailer. Institution We used the E4 institution to advertise our soap. This is because similar teenage drama like mine are shown on that channel, such as Skins and One Tree Hill. The channel also has the same target audience as us. Brand I think the main problem with the combination between my main product the soap trailer to my ancillary products is that there is no easily identifiable brand. If I had created a logo or title card for my the soap name then I could have used this as a brand symbol throughout my products.
3 . What have you learnt from audience feedback Questionnaire Asked 20 people, this is how many picked yes or no Question Yes No Do you think the storylines reflect existing soaps? 20 0 Do you think the camera angles and movement reflect existing soap trailers? 20 0 Do you think the music reflect existing soap trailers and matches the genre and atmosphere of the trailer? 16 4 Do you think the editing creates excitement and enigmas that reflect existing soap trailers? 18 2 Do you think the trailer creates excitement and enigmas that will make the audience want to watch the TV show? 18 2 Do you think the layout of the TV magazine reflects existing TV magazines? 20 0 Do you think the pictures, captions and storyline presented in the magazine reflects existing TV magazines? 20 0 Do you think the effects such as shadow, glow and stroke reflects existing TV magazines? 19 1 Do you think the TV magazine advertises the TV soap well? 15 5 Do you think the soap poster (layout, pictures, text, effects…) reflects existing soap posters? 17 3 Do you think the soap poster advertises the soap well? 17 3 Do you think the soap poster creates drama and enigmas that would make the audience want to watch the show? 18 2 Do you think the ancillary product are well combined with the main soap trailer? 15 5

It would make the audience want to watch the programme” Magazine: “ I think the magazine is similar to existing TV magazines in the layouts and pictures” “ I like the use of colour in the magazine, it makes it look like an actual TV magazine” Poster: “ The poster is very dramatic and looks professional” “ I like the close up on the facial expressions it makes the characters stand out” Negative: Trailer: “ At times the music in the trailer is hard to hear or the voices are hard to hear” “ The E4 sticker at the end is not placed correct” “ Some of the scenes weren't as strong as others” Other: “ I think the font for the poster doesn't match the rest of the poster” “ The cast members don’t always match in the group shot, and the ancillaries” “ There is no identifiable brand for the soap”
