We spend a huge chunk of our life at work and I feel better about it when I make it count! Does anyone have any suggestions about what makes a good project?

Lack of direction is normally due to too many features, no prioritisation, not enough time.
Towards the more expensive end and normally this is done by an agency/consuntancy. However it’s more objective, you can benefit from their suggestions, expertise and they’ll recruit the users too.
Cheaper, quicker but often you don’t have the opportunity to really communicate with the users. Good for statistical significance
More traditionally scientific, great to work out where people are focusing. Requires specialist kit, doesn’t always get to the bottom of why people are looking!
This is great for trying new ideas on your live site without fully committing to them. Great for improving conversion rates but not so good for understanding why. Very popular in Lean startups.
This can vary from doing it yourself with specialist software to paper prototyping to asking people in the pub. Come along to SWUX and I’ll get you up and running.
