TOURISMLABLAB
FILES Collaborative Research to innovate the Travel and Tourism Market
These Lab Files are produced as a follow up of the project
named TourismLab, organized by the Creative Ring during
NetFutures, an event held by the European Commision from
25th to 26th March 2015 at the EGG.
This document, a work in process, will be shared with the
Creative Ring community and with everyone interested in its
co-creation process.
The project merges ideas from the event, together with the
ongoing‘Touristlab’research by creative think tank Addictlab
(‘Voyage’, ‘Ideas on Travel and Tourism”,“touristlab.org”)
The Creative Ring challenged its members via Yola, a dedi-
cated online collaborative platform, to share their opinions
and fresh ideas about four important issues concerning the
Tourism Sector.
- Storytelling as a new way to communicate tourism
context;
- ICT & new experiences, looking for new ideas or new
technologies which are innovating the tourism industry;
- Local Economy, investigating how tourism can help the
development of the local economy;
- Social Innovation, considering how innovation could
positively change society.
During NetFutures, the ideas digitally collected on Yola were
shown on the Idea Wall, a physical laboratory developed by
Creative Ring partner YourOwnLab. The Tourism Lab at Net
Futures Conference gave participants the opportunity to
discover how the Creative Ring supports its community to
collaborate and co-create.

One month before the Net Futures conference, Creative Ring
opened a digital lab on YOLA, a dedicated online
collaborative platform. Creative Ring’s community was
invited to share their ideas about the four opened issues.
Thirty four members took part in the project, sharing a lot of
interesting inputs, which were used to inspire Net Futures’
attendees.

At the Net Futures conference Creative Ring involved the
event’s participants in a co-creation exercise by using the
Idea Wall.
This tool is composed of five thematic panels, where people
have the occasion to express their views or sketch out their
own idea, by filling in preprinted flyers.

Storytelling is you talking with your friends

European countries. Every country has its own train infrastructure
companies that each have their own web structure to plan and
book rides.
As soon as you try to book cross-country or internationally this
becomes problematic and you have to contact your local station to
book by phone or even go at the station, often at hefty fees.
We need a clean transparent and clutterfree platform that solves
these issues.

PLAYGROUND is a game application developed
within the context of SPECIFI project that allows
users to discover the city in a playful way. The
application and its interactive game mechanics
were designed in close cooperation with New
Heroes Foundation in Amsterdam and iMinds
(Ghent, Belgium).
PLAYGROUND has been designed for Kortrijk
and was never used before. Kortrijk citizens and
visitors will use the app on their smartphones
throughout October. Their experience and feed-
back will then stimulate further development by
the promoters.

De Chief Tourist Officer is een nieuwe taak binnen een bedrijf enorganisatie. De CTO zorgt ervoor dat mensen binnen een bedrijftijd krijgen om aan toerisme te doen, op basis van hun HUCA-profiel.
De taakverdeling van een CTO dient verder te worden uitgediept,maar moet in samenwerking met HR en eventueel Marketing zijn.
De Human capabilities (HUCA)* tabel van Addictlab kan eenleidraad zijn bij de profilering van de werknemer en de selectievan de bestemmingen.

Research and ideas to innovate the travel and tourism market LAB
FILES
The Creative Ring, initially developed by SPECIFI, is a
new experimental community and platform for sharing
creative and innovative content and activities all over
Europe, using advanced Internet technologies and
networks.
It is based on an open collaboration between local
artists and creative industries (comprising cultural,
media, arts, advertising and other sectors) with univer-
sities, local authorities and ICT companies in each city
and region. This way, the Creative Ring intends to bring
together solutions for infrastructure, useful and proven
FI systems and applications; the Creative Industries can
experiment or deploy these systems and the resulting
innovative content.
The pillars of the Creative Ring are: HUBS, TOOLS, PART-
NERS and PROJECTS.
The Creative Ring will establish connections with exist-
ing organisations and institutions working in different
domains through NETWORKS. The networks, and their
members, will receive preferential access to the Creative
Ring hubs, tools and projects. These links will enable
collaborations not only between Creative Industries
but will connect creativity with many other areas of
research, innovation and experimentation.

Addict Lab Community is a creative think tank found-
ed by Jan Van Mol 18 years ago having delivered an
impressive number of services for large corporates, gov-
ernments and cities. Addictlab, acting now as R&D unit
for YourOwnLab has opened several labs - collaborative
research projects - on different themes such as Tourist
Lab, Urban Green Lab, ChocolateLab.
Addictlab has about 4500 labmembers from over 100
countries, 35 publications on diverse matters and an
extensive idea database of over 10.000 concepts.

These Lab Files are produced as a follow up of the project named TourismLab, organized by the Creative Ring during NetFutures, an event held by the European Commision from 25th to 26th March 2015 at the EGG. This document, a work in process, will be shared with the Creative Ring community and with everyone interested in its co-creation process. The project merges ideas from the event, together with the ongoing‘Touristlab’research by creative think tank Addictlab (‘Voyage’, ‘Ideas on Travel and Tourism”,“touristlab.org”) The Creative Ring challenged its members via Yola, a dedi- cated online collaborative platform, to share their opinions and fresh ideas about four important issues concerning the Tourism Sector. - Storytelling as a new way to communicate tourism context; - ICT & new experiences, looking for new ideas or new technologies which are innovating the tourism industry; - Local Economy, investigating how tourism can help the development of the local economy; - Social Innovation, considering how innovation could positively change society. During NetFutures, the ideas digitally collected on Yola were shown on the Idea Wall, a physical laboratory developed by Creative Ring partner YourOwnLab. The Tourism Lab at Net Futures Conference gave participants the opportunity to discover how the Creative Ring supports its community to collaborate and co-create.   • 3. One month before the Net Futures conference, Creative Ring opened a digital lab on YOLA, a dedicated online collaborative platform. Creative Ring’s community was invited to share their ideas about the four opened issues. Thirty four members took part in the project, sharing a lot of interesting inputs, which were used to inspire Net Futures’ attendees. Research and ideas to innovate the travel and tourism market TOOLS LAB FILES At the Net Futures conference Creative Ring involved the event’s participants in a co-creation exercise by using the Idea Wall. This tool is composed of five thematic panels, where people have the occasion to express their views or sketch out their own idea, by filling in preprinted flyers. The Creative Ring, initially developed by SPECIFI, is a new experimental community and platform for sharing creative and innovative content and activities all over Europe, using advanced Internet technologies and networks. It is based on an open collaboration between local artists and creative industries (comprising cultural, media, arts, advertising and other sectors) with univer- sities, local authorities and ICT companies in each city and region. This way, the Creative Ring intends to bring together solutions for infrastructure, useful and proven FI systems and applications; the Creative Industries can experiment or deploy these systems and the resulting innovative content. The Creative Ring will establish connections with exist- ing organisations and institutions working in different domains through NETWORKS.
