4. ISO 14001
• ISO 14001:2004 is the international standard for environmental
management systems (EMS) and the most widely used EMS in the
world, with over 14,000 organizations certified in the UK and over
250,000 certificates issued globally.
• ISO 14001 is the principal management system standard which
specifies the requirements for the formulation and maintenance of
an EMS.
• ISO 14001 is accompanied by ISO 14004 Environmental
Management Systems – General Guidelines on principles, systems
and support techniques.
5. ISO 14001 AT FORD MOTORS
▪ Ford became the first US automaker to acquire ISO 14001 EMS certification for all
of its suppliers and manufacturing facilities in 1999
▪ Ford’s Environmental Operating System (EOS) which includes ISO 14001 drives
compliance responsibility to the operations level by applying compliance related
tasks to the appropriate personnel
▪ ISO 14001 helps in consolidating specific plant requirements and monitoring
recurring tasks
▪ Ford uses Global Emission Manager (GEM) database which incorporates 14001 to
