This half-day workshop will provide participants with an understanding of coal supply and purchase
agreements in general, and an appreciation of the importance of certain key terms, and their relevance
when things don’t go quite according to plan.
• Coal sale and purchase agreements from the perspectives of both buyers and sellers
• Constraints imposed by financing parties for independent power projects
• Ways in which parties to coal supply and purchase agreements may protect their interests in the
face of market forces
• Typical terms of a long term supply and purchase agreement

Workshop Leader:
James Booker is President Director of PT JBCS Indonesia, a consulting company which
provides services to clients in the energy, mining and construction sectors. He has 36
years experience in North America, South America and throughout Asia.
Prior to forming his own consulting company he was SeniorVice President with PT Paiton
Energy, the operator of the 1,230MW Paiton I coal-fired power plant and developer of the 815MW
Paiton 3 coalfired power plant, and during his time with PT Paiton Energy he was responsible for the
procurement of more than 4.5 million tonnes per year of coal.
James is now advising several clients engaged in major power and mining development projects in
the region, for which he is providing advice on fuel supply and purchase agreements, EPC contract
structuring, dispute resolution, and development strategy.

Workshop Leaders:
George Ng is the HeadofEnergyandMetalsProducts–Asia in the CME Group, Singapore
office. Prior to joining CME Group, Mr. Ng served as assistant Vice President of Market
and Membership Development for the Joint Asian Derivatives Exchange (JADE), where
he was responsible for promoting commodity derivatives trading and overseeing their
promotions and education functions. Mr. Ng also worked for the Singapore Commodity Exchange
and Informatics Computer School in Singapore.
ZennyTran started her commodity trading career in 1994 at Marubeni Corporation as
an operation executive for physical coal and oil. In 1999 she joined Ginga Petroleum
(Singapore) Pte Ltd as a broker for naphtha derivatives market. In 2003 she started coal
desk for Ginga and has been Coal Team Leader since then. With 15 years in commodity
trading and brokering career she is experienced in both physical and derivatives operation, trading,
hedging and risk management.
Vincent Ngiam started his career in the futures and commodities market back in 1992
as a floor broker in what was known as SIMEX then. Over the years, he had built his career
in major broking houses like UOB Bullion and Futures, Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi and
Nomura Securities, with extensive experience servicing Institution and Corporate clients.
He joined Phillip Futures in 2008 on the FOREX and Bullion Desk. At present, he is actively involved
in building the firm’s Energy and Commodity OTC capabilities.
