1. It was an exciting year for the Library. In October, we celebrated our 60th Anniversary! As our community continues to
grow and change, we have made improvements and introduced new services that are helping us meet the needs of
Ajax residents. In 2012, we:
»Launched a new, more customer-friendly website.
»Introduced Freegal and Freading services – downloadable music and eBooks available to all Library members
through our website.
»Launched the Defence Industries Limited (DIL) online exhibition which provides a historical look at the DIL plant in
Ajax during World War II.
»Started interacting with our customers through Twitter.
»Introduced the mobile app BookMyne which allows customers to search the catalogue, place
holds and receive alerts about upcoming due dates on Apple or Android phones.
»Completed renovations to the Main Branch’s second floor including a
new floor plan and reduced shelving height.
2012 HIGHLIGHTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
The library is a big part of the Ajax community. People use the library in many different ways and it means something different to
everyone: children’s programs, a meeting place, a study place, books, ebooks, magazines, DVDs, a place to learn, a calm place.
The library fills many different needs.
Moving forward, the library will continue to evolve and change to meet the needs of the community. An exciting part of this will
include planning for a new branch that will be connected to the Audley Recreation Centre to better serve the fast growing northern
part of Ajax.
Thank you for supporting the Ajax Public Library and making it an important part of your community.
