2. Fragrance Advert 1:
Target audience for Libertѐ
• My target audience is young men aged 15-
35 who like exploration but are used to the
finer things in life. This fragrance is where
higher life meets Wildlife and this appeals to
men in this region and to other men who want
to feel free.
• The target reader sees himself as confident
and outgoing and feels like he can achieve a
lot.
• My target audience lives and works in an
urban area yet he enjoys exploring the wildlife
and outdoors neighbouring the urban area.
• I would place my advertisements in magazines
for men for example GQ and Men’s Health.
• His leisure activities are likely to be going for
walks on breaks during work so that he can let
himself go after some hard work in the city
and high income job.
• His ideal holiday would be in the Caribbean in
the finest hotel drinking martinis overlooking
the sea
3. How Advert 1 Targets
my audience: codes and
conventions
• The sun shining through the trees will capture
peoples attention because it is bright and the
lens flare also adds to the affect.
• The area around in the picture connotes
excitement, adventure and freedom connects
with the word 'Freedom' or 'Liberte' in French.
• The outdoors area shows the adventure within
the fragrance and the man in the jacket is the
contrast between urban life and wildlife.
• The picture is taken from a lower angle which
makes the trees look taller and main person in
the picture look taller as well. The person looks
like he is looking into the light which is quite
daring and the person is looking off into the
distance showing signs of not caring about the
light shining in his face.
• The mise-en-scene of a mature forest celebrates
wildlife with its towering trees, glowing sunshine
and blue sky through the gaps in the trees.
• The blue represents a manly colour and this
appeals to both high class men and men who like
the outdoors. The font of the words also
represents higher class as it has the serif font
4. Fragrance Advert 2: The
target audience for Fame
• The target audience for this advert is ages 15-40
years of age as represented as the main
character in this fragrance.
• It shows a smartly dressed man who looks like
he’s at a wedding or a smart convention of some
sort.
• This fragrance will be used in magazines such as
GQ and Men’s Health
• It may be used in posh tailor shops or other
places like that and may be advertised on
billboards or at bus stops.
• He looks like he might be famous or very wealthy
and in his free time he would go out to clubs or
to parties regularly.
• He looks like he would be at the top of a
company and he was the one who gained all the
money to go on such extravagant parties.
• The target reader will see himself as upper class
from other people and will have a high end
career earning a high salary.
• In his free time the person wearing this fragrance
would go out partying and extravagant holidays
abroad.
5. Fragrance Advert 2:
Codes and Conventions for
Fame
• The clothes the man is wearing looks very expensive
and is made of quality material which conveys the idea
that he is wealthy.
• The blue in the background is a more of a man colour
and the bottle is also black with the white to black
gradient but the fragrance actually being white.
• The cost of the bottle will be fairly expensive as the
main convention of the advert is wealth.
• The font is very square-like and suits the advert picture.
The font colour is also black to match the fragrance
bottle, I chose this colour as it matches with the man’s
suit and contrasts with the white shirt.
• The open arms of the man shows he is taking up more
space which is a stereotypical thing for an ‘alpha male’
to do or a man who has a lot of authority and
confidence.
• As this fragrance is for wealthy people, the central
image unlocks the key to its images of style, leisure and
partying.
• The lure of this fragrance is the central representation
of the man who has a smile on his face and who has his
arms wide either offering an embrace or welcoming
people to try the fragrance.
• The formality of the outfit with the three piece suit,
waistcoat, white shirt, tie, leather belt shows
traditional values, he has also removed his jacket which
is informal and shows he is confident of approval.
• ‘Steal the show‘ reveals that the main character in the
fragrance is there to attract the attention of other
people and to make you the main attraction when you
wear this fragrance.
6. Research into the magazine
industry as a vehicle for my
advertisements
• I would place my fragrances in these
magazines as it is for the ages of 15-35 and will
be focused at males. I have chosen these two
for my research as they are male magazines
and would fit into my target audience. Men’s
Health would be an ideal magazine to
advertise my fragrance in as it is used by many
men and read by them too. This magazine is
mainly focused at 15-25 year olds and so
would my men's fragrance.
• I would use these male based magazines to be
a vehicle for my advertisement of my
fragrance as it will also appeal for the
audiences reading the magazine. Other
magazines that I had researched were either
not well known enough or weren’t suited to
the fragrance that I was going to advertise.
• The Men’s Health man would be a great model
suited to my sort of fragrance and would make
people want to buy the fragrance as that
Men’s Health man would be a good person for
an advertisement of such.
7. Research into the
advertising industry
• I first analysed the men and women in the Fanta
advert and I found out that the Fanta campaign
is all about having fun and that it is a drink for
both sexes. It is animated within a city and at the
start there is a bored woman, but when Fanta is
introduced to her, she jumps up and goes
outside to have a great time with everyone else
who has drunk Fanta. This is the part of where
Fanta is meant to give you the feeling of
excitement and the feeling that you are on top of
the world. Their advert is more aimed towards
teens because of their young looking cartoon
characters in the advert all drinking Fanta.
• Then I analysed the Orangina advert because
they are a competitor with Fanta. Men and
women are represented in this advert as animals,
but sexually appealing animals. Orangina is
aiming their target audience to be men and
women, because if they drink it they will feel
more sexually appealing although they may be a
party animal. The ice below the animals is also a
reference to being ‘hot’, so when you drink the
drink, then you will be hot, hence the melting of
the ice.
10. Evaluation
• When I was creating my fragrance advertisements I took into account
and researched other advertisements such as Orangina and Fanta. I
used these to spur on ideas on how to create my advertisements and
to give me different ideas of how to create my fragrance
advertisement.
• I also researched different male magazines to see if I could advertise a
fragrance in it and see other examples of where I could advertise it.
• I came across some difficulties in the making of my advert as I had to
find people to take picture of which took me a while but I managed to.
That was the main one. I also found it difficult to write about the
advertisement and to pick out every detail needed to get the marks.
• The photo shop stage of my fragrances was easy as I have knowledge
of how to change pictures in photo shop by teaching myself and
playing around with different tools to see what they do.
