2. • When I started the course in Year 12 I had no experience of
filming, editing or properly planning a media piece. I also used
basic technologies such as Windows Live Movie Maker.
• By the end of my AS year, I had gained knowledge that would
give me a firm grounding for A2 year.
• In my AS year, I worked in a group with three other people.
This was a pleasant experience as we all had expertise in an
area that would highly benefit the rest of our group, for
example, I was meticulous in my organisation and often
organised the other members in regards to shooting schedules
etc.
• This year I chose to work with only one other person, I did this
as I wanted more responsibility for my product.
3. • RESEARCH
• For the most of my research I have used the internet, by using the internet I have gained
access to an infinite number of resources.
• I have used websites such as NME (music video history, best music videos, best CD
covers), emilnava.com and IMVDB.com for my research. Wikipedia was also a key
website that I used for my research.
• Last year I found that I it took me a long period of time to find the relevant information I
needed. This year I have found that I was able to use my time much more wisely. Last
year I also found that it took a considerable amount of time to sift through the information
and put it into my own words; this year I have found this much easier as I already had
some knowledge of what I needed to search for and also what key words in a text I
needed to look for.

4. • PLANNING
• Like last year I used a storyboard to plan my music video. I did this because
last year I felt that the storyboards gave me strong shot plans; however, this
year I used post-it notes instead of writing the shots directly onto the paper.
This meant that I could move the shots around easily without having to start
all over again.
• I used my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone during the planning process, I did this
to directly email and telephone venues and the people we would need for
the production process. I also used my phone to search for the lyrics of the
song for adding them to the post-it note storyboard system.
• We used YouTube a lot during our planning stage, the website hosts millions
of music videos. We used this to gain ideas and look at the shot types that
are used in the pop video genre. YouTube was extremely useful for our
planning and research stage, however due to the sheer number videos on
the website it is very easy to get distracted and begin watching videos
containing puppies.
5. I used post-its on my storyboards
so I could easily move the shots
and ideas I had around.
My phone allowed me to easily
communicate with my partner, note
down ideas
and also access the internet whenever I
needed
for extra research. It also allowed me to
take the photo that we have used for
our CD cover.
6. • CONSTRUCTION
• This year I have used different media technologies. To film
my piece I used a Nikon D5200 and also a Nikon D5000
stills camera that I used to document the filming process.
• I have used Wix again as the basis for our website as one of
our ancillary tasks; I used this website builder last year as
the host for my entire evaluation and I was able to build on
the skills that I acquired last year to create a high quality
website this year.
7. • EDITING
• In Year 12 we used Adobe Premier Pro to edit our AS thriller together. After
buying a MacBook I experimented with the use of iMovie 10.0.07. I found
that iMovie was easier to use and I could still create a high quality product.
• I also used Adobe Photoshop to edit our digipack, at first I found this difficult
but after watching a number of YouTube tutorials I found this much easier.
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VpkJcB1gEM <— one of the videos I
watched.
• I used the ‘Ken Burns’ effect on my video; this zoomed in on the shot and
was useful for editing out any errors we had not noticed when filming.
8. This shows the Ken
Burns effect, it shows
where
shot will begin and
end.
Originally our music video was
shot in colour, we used ‘Video Effects
to add
the black and white filter. We also used
this
to flip a number of our shots (for
example, the split screen where both
Emily and I can be seen.)
9. • I believe that the internet was the most useful technology
that I used. Without the internet I would not have been able
to carry out the research for my video (such as researching
genre conventions), I would not have been able to email to
and fro with my partner to be able to plan our filming days. I
would also not have been able to use online tutorials to
learn how to use iMovie 10.0.07 properly and without this I
would not have been able to edit the music video to the
standard that I have.
