Respectfortruth and the public'srighttoinformationare overridingprinciplesforall journalists. In
pursuance of these principles,journalistscommitthemselvestoethical andprofessional standards. All
membersof the Unionengagedingathering,transmitting,disseminatingandcommentingonnewsand
informationshall observe the followingCode of Ethicsintheirprofessional activities:
(a) Theyshall reportand interpretthe newswithscrupuloushonestybystrivingtodisclose all essential
facts andby not suppressingrelevant,availablefactsordistortingbywrongor improperemphasis.
(b) Theyshall not place unnecessaryemphasisongender,race,sexual preference,religiousbelief,
marital statusor physical or mental disability.
(c) Inall circumstancestheyshall respectall confidencesreceivedinthe course of theiroccupation.
(d) Theyshall not allowpersonal intereststoinfluence themintheirprofessional duties.
(e) Theyshall notallowtheirprofessional dutiestobe influencedbyanyconsideration,giftor
advantage offeredand,where appropriate,shall discloseanysuchoffer.
(f) Theyshall notallowadvertisingorcommercial considerationstoinfluence themintheirprofessional
duties.
(g) They shall use fairandhonestmeanstoobtainnews,pictures,films,tapesanddocuments.
(h) Theyshall identifythemselvesandtheiremployersbefore obtaininganyinterview forpublicationor
broadcast.
(i) Theyshall respectprivate grief andpersonal privacyandshall have the righttoresistcompulsionto
intrude onthem.
(j) Theyshall dotheirutmostto correct any publishedorbroadcastinformationfoundtobe harmfully
inaccurate.
