BCAP Executive Director Aleisha Khan (akhan@ase.org) discussed the Alliance’s BCAP experience, as well as international examples to identify favorable markets for green codes. With experience in technical projects and market transformation, Aleisha directs BCAP activities for improving energy performance in residential and commercial buildings through building codes.
2. OUTLINE
Why BCAP was formed and what we do
Green building codes in the U.S.
Codes and green buildings around the world
3. BCAP – BUILDING CODES ASSISTANCE
PROJECT
Created in 1994 to assist US states in
adopting and implementing building energy
codes
Energy Policy Act of 1992 (identified national
model energy codes)
Policy requires states to adopt most current model
codes
Incentives provided through economic stimulus funding
States are allowed to put in place an equivalent code OR
add requirements that improve energy efficiency
4. BCAP – BUILDING CODES ASSISTANCE
PROJECT
A joint project of:
the Alliance to Save Energy,
the National Resource Defense Council, and
the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy
Provide resources, education & advocacy assistance
for the adoption, implementation, &
advancement of effective energy codes on
behalf of US Department of Energy
