As part of its ongoing effort to promote alternatives to seclusion and restraint and other forms of coercive interventions among special populations, SAMHSA’s Promoting Alternatives to Seclusion and Restraint through Trauma-informed Practices, will host a 6-part webinar series to be followed by an ongoing virtual dialogue with presenters and experts in the field through SAMHSA’s BHTalk web site and subsequent written brief to inform the field on promising practices. The Department of Education today issued a resource document that present and describe 15 principles for state, district, and school staff; parents; and other stakeholders to consider when states, localities, and districts develop policies and procedures which should be in writing on the use of restraint and seclusion. This resource document discusses the context within which these principles were developed, lists the principles, and highlights the current state of practice and implementation considerations for each principle.
