to have an Instagram account in order to
advertise on Instagram (* more info later) but it
is very desirable to have one.
● Currently, business Instagram accounts do not
differ from a normal Instagram account. We can
assume that in the future, Facebook will start to
distinguish them based on user behaviour
statistics.
5. Advertising on Instagram - Connecting to Facebook

promotions
● Or if you are an advertising agency to get
access to and promote Instagram account
of different clients.

After the connection is done you will see your Instagram account in the tab.

and also have the “Remove account” option.

wish to add to your Business Manager.
9. Advertising on Instagram - Connecting to facebook
The result is an Instagram account that is
connected to your Business Manager
* but it will not allow you to promote it just yet.
Click> “Assign Ad Account”> and select the Ad
Account you wish to attach to this Instagram Account.
* Note: you have the option to allow different Ad Accounts
to advertise the same Instagram Account.
Only after attaching an Ad Account to the Instagram
Account you can start an advertising campaign in “Power
Editor”
In order to be able to promote this specific account
you must attach an “Facebook Ad account” to it.
10. Advertising on Instagram - Connecting to facebook

11. Advertising on Instagram - Launch Campaign
Launching your first instagram Campaign
launching an Instagram campaign is as easy as
launching a normal campaign on Facebook
Power Editor.
● It is recommended you get familiar with
the Facebook Power editor - regardless to
Instagram)
At this point Facebook opened 3 advertising
options on Instagram:
1. Mobile App Installs
2. Click To website
3. Video views
In the future Facebook will open more options. One of the Advertisers most desired option is the “Carousel”
Ad which is going to be a bit different than the one we know from Facebook.

12. Advertising on Instagram - Launch Campaign
When you create your own campaign choose one of these three options.
Note: The instagram option will appear on the “Ad Set”
level under “Placement”
Note: in this example all the “Placements” are chosen, which means
that you could promote one Ad with one creative to all Placements.
Be ware: multiple placement is not necessarily better. Bare in
mind that Instagram is very different from Facebook in the way that
users are consuming content. People would not want to see “Offers”
or “Buy Now” on instagram they prefer creativity.
13. Advertising on Instagram - Launch Campaign
After choosing the >“Campaign Objective” >and
Instagram as the Ad Placement>
>Choose the Facebook page you want to relate the campaign
to on the Ad level. If you already related an instagram account
to the Facebook page you could use the account that was
attached to the Page.
See example:
On top: A page where an Instagram account is attached.
Below: no Instagram account attached to page.
14. Advertising on Instagram - Launch Campaign
In the case that there is no Instagram
account attached :
facebook will offer you to:
● Open an Instagram account on the
spot or
● Use “Instagram account Image”.
In this case Facebook will show your ads on Instagram
with the “account” name as the name of facebook
page you promote.
● That name will not be clickable.
15. Advertising on Instagram - Launch Campaign
Next you have to chose:
● An image
● Call to Action button
● text
Congratulations: you can now upload your first
Instagram Ad Campaign.
It is important to understand that when you upload a
campaign that is attached to your Instagram account:
The campaign will not appear in your instagram
account.
The ad will be promoted and displayed on the Instagram
platform yet users who view your account will not see the
Ad/Post.
16. Advertising on Instagram - Image Size
Optimal Image size
Since the Instagram optimal Image size is
1080x1080 pxl
Yet the Facebook link optimal image size is
1200x628 pxl
Therefor We have prepared a diagram (right)
demonstrating the proportions in order for you to be
able to prepare a creative that will suite both platforms.
Please note: - The Facebook max 20% text per Pic
rule applies here too.
17. Advertising on Instagram - Monitoring Ad/Post Data
For the moment Facebook reports do not
have the option to see how many people joined
your account (followers) as a result of the
campaign.
The ads have no Follow button attached to
them but there will always be users that will
reach your account through the ads and then
will chose to Follow.
At the moment there is no Get more Followers
Campaign option.
Monitoring Ad/Post Data
After uploading your instagram Campaign the follow up
is through the Ad Manager platform. where you could
see:
1. The link to the promoted Post on Instagram will
appear in the Ad Manager on the creative level.
18. Advertising on Instagram - Monitoring Ad/Post Data
2. A link to the Facebook post will appear at the
same place.
The metrics received from facebook are identical to the
usual metrics you receive for Facebook campaigns: likes,
share, comments, impressions, link clicks, video views,
App installs etc…
As mentioned before no data regarding “Followers” is
available yet.
In case of promoting an account that is also attached to
your mobile do expect to receive a lot of notifications. for
every new like comment, share Instagram will send a new
notification.
This is how a post that is promoted on Instagram and also
appears on Facebook will look like.

19. Advertising on Instagram - Summary
As you can see launching a campaign on
Instagram is not complicated, and that was
Facebook intention: make it simple without
adding an additional Ads Platform.
So go ahead and start trying it out!
Nevertheless remember that:
Instagram is not Facebook!
Be creative and there are a lot of examples in
the web for good ads and how to create a good
campaign on Instagram.
We also strongly recommend to follow
Instagram blog where there are many examples
and explanations and what to do and not to do.
