The JSW Steel Vijayanagar plant is the first integrated steel plant to reach 10 MTPA
capacity in a single location. It is the first in India to use the Corex technology for
hot metal production.
The first hot strip mill at Vijayanagar was commissioned in 1997. Since then it has
grown exponentially and now has an installed capacity to produce 10 MTPA of steel.
Located at a remote village Toranagallu part of under developed North Karnataka in
the Bellary- Hospet iron ore belt of Karnataka, the fully integrated steel plant, is
well-connected with both the Goa and Chennai ports.
Products: Slabs, billets, blooms, HR coils and sheets, Cold Rolled Close Annealed
(CRCA) coils and sheets, Galvanised products, Wire rods, Bar rods and Angles

Corex is a smelting reduction process combining a melter
gasifier with a reduction shaft.
The process takes lump iron ore or pellets, non-coking
coal, and oxygen as main inputs.
Lump ore, sinter, pellets or mixture are charged into reduction
shaft, where they are reduced to direct reduced iron.

flow of molten metal in casting operations.

As we know that steel is one of the key drivers of increasing India's GDP and its been
demonstrated that requirement of steel is increasing by 1.2 times of that of GDP. Thus, it forms
the backbone of developing economy . By introducing new technologies and use of technology
like corex and process like bottom purging in tundish, JSW Steel Vijayanagar is able to meet the
demand and if we have a glimpse of annual report of JSW steel. We will get to know that
production of JSW is increasing day by day with the increase in operations profit.
JSW Steel ranked 6TH Position among world class steel makers as per WSD in 2015 and JSW
STEEL recorded its highest ever gross turnover of `49,658 Cr. for the year 2015. JSW Steel is
leveraging resources and technology efficiently and innovatively to maximize returns.
