Dangerous goods stored in remote locations like mines and warehouses or in small quantities at local businesses are often overlooked compared to major hazard facilities, even though non-compliance with storage, handling, and transportation regulations for dangerous goods can result in personal injury or fatality. The speaker, Amanda Wylde, has experience providing risk assessment and compliance services related to dangerous goods for clients in various industries including aviation, defense, mining, energy, and chemicals. She will discuss common misconceptions about dangerous goods and examples of related incidents at an event on March 12, 2015.

Dangerous Goods (DG) can be forgotten and mistreated because they are
often stored in remote locations (mine sites), large quantities tucked away in
warehouses and in small quantities at local businesses. Compared to Major
Hazard Facilities (MHF) they are often not as 'exciting' and hence overlooked
as they may not require explosion, fire modelling or toxic gas dispersion, but
rather compliance with Australian Standards (AS) and DMP Regulations.
However, compliance with AS and DMP Regulations can easily be
misinterpreted. If DGs are not stored, handled or transported correctly,
personal injury and fatality can result.
