1. How To Become A Bounty Hunter In Florida
A bounty hunter captures fugitives and others for a financial reward. Technically, there is no such
thing as a bounty hunter in the state of Florida, and it is illegal to perform such an act. The men and
women who recover defendants out on bail in the state of Florida are licensed bondsmen, often
referred to as "pickup guys" or "fugitive recovery agents. "
Instructions

Call the Florida Department of Financial Services at 850-413-3137, ext. 1101, to find out if you are
qualified to become a licensed bail bondsman in Florida.

Visit the Florida Security Agents Association (see Resources) website to enroll in its 120-hour course.
The classes usually take two to three weeks to complete. During this time you will receive training
from law enforcement and bail bond agent instructors. As of 2011, the course fee was $150.

Enroll in the correspondence course at the University of Florida, the INS 3 --- Bail & Bail Bond
Insurance --- at 352-392-1711. As of 2011, the fee for the course and course manual was $300. You
can take levels one and two separately or at the same time, depending on your preference.

Obtain a Limited Surety Agent Temporary license from the Department of Financial Services (see
Resources). You must submit fingerprints, a criminal history report and pay any required application
fees to get your license. For more information, call the Agents and Agent Licensing department at
850-413-3137, ext. 1101.

Complete a one-year internship working with a licensed bail bondsman. You must put in a minimum
of 30 hours per week for 52 weeks.

Pass a final examination at a Promissory Testing center. There are centers located all across Florida.
