AmyBalmer analyzed the opening title sequences of three films - Layer Cake, The Shining, and Se7en - to determine the most common ordering pattern. She found that the studio logo typically appears first, followed by the director and producer, then the key cast. The film title is usually presented after the key cast. However, for her own film, AmyBalmer plans to modify the typical order by placing the title immediately after an opening gunshot for dramatic effect, followed by the director, producer, and casts.

Film Opening Titles Conventions
1. AmyBalmer
We are watching film openings and focusing on the titles to find out what the
most common pattern is in the ordering, so that we can use that order in our
film openings. I have chosen to analyse Layer Cake because it fits within my
genre, The Shining because it is a well-known film and Se7en because it also
fits with our genre.
Layer Cake:
Main Actor
Title
Cast
Other Cast
Casting By
Costume Designer
Music Supervisor
Music By
The Shining:
Studio
Director
Key Cast (2)
Title
Other Cast
Executive Producer
Se7en:
Studio
Producer
Director
Key Cast (2)
Title
Other Cast
After looking at these three film opening I have found that the most common
order goes the studio logo, the director, the producer, the key cast, the title and
then the rest of the cast. The studio logo always seems to go first the director/
producer usually follows; the key cast is presented very early in the film opening;
the title came around the same time in The Shining and Se7en; and the other
cast always came after the title of the film. However, because we are playing
most of the titles after a gunshot, for dramatic effect, our order will be: studio
logo, (opening), title, director, producer, key cast and then other cast.
