2. Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm, born on
4 January 1785, was 13 months older
than his brother Wilhelm Carl
Grimm (b. 24 February 1786). Both
were born in Hanau. They finished the
Gymnasium in Kassel and then they
studied law at the University of
Marburg. After working a while as
librarians in Kassel hired as professors
at the University of Göttingen in 1830
Jacob and his brother five years later.
Jacob Grimm never married, but
EARLY LIFE Wilhelm married Henriette Dorothea
Wild, with whom he had four
children. Wilhelm Carl Grimm died on
December 16, 1859, while his brother
Jacob on September 20, 1863 in Berlin.
Both are buried in the cemetery of St.
Matthew in Berlin.
3. The Grimm were writers and collectors of traditional tales, in which
Wilhelm Carl Grimm gave literary form and adapted for children. They
began to collect folk tales around 1807, a time when there was intense
interest in similar projects.
In the first volume of stories issued in 1812. The volume, under the name
"Kinder - und Hausmärchen" ("Children and Family Tales"), contained
86 stories. There followed another 70 stories in a second volume,
published in 1814. By 1857 seven versions of fairy tales have been
published and contained a total of 211 stories
Between 1816 and 1818 issued two volumes of German legends entitled
"Deutsche Sagen" ("German myths"), containing 585 stories written in
chronological order. Still, they released a version with Irish stories about
elves ("Irische Elfenmärchen") in 1826, which was a translation and
commentary by the project "Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of
Ireland" the Irishman Thomas Crocker Croft, and a version titled
"Deutsche Mythologie" ("German Mythology") 1835.Ta the tales were

Cassel Jacob Grimm wrote worked on the dictionary
the "Deutsche Grammatik" of the German language,
("German Grammar"), a "Deutsches Wörterbuch",
work that dealt more with from 1838 onwards. By

In 2005, UNESCO included a handwritten copy of
the Kinder-und Hausmärchen, by the brothers
Grimm, document world heritage.
The fairy tales have been used as subjects in several
films and television series.
In 1962 comes the movie "The Wonderful World of
the Brothers Grimm" directed by Henry Levin
(Henry Levin) on the brothers Grimm and their fairy
tales and proposed for various categories at the
Oscars 1963.
