2. The Definition
A gadget is a small tool such as a machine that
has a particular function, but is often thought of
as a novelty. Gadgets are sometimes referred to
as gizmos. Actually any technological device we
use today can be considered as a gadget. There
is a wide variety of gadgets nowadays that suit
every need you might have.
3. Etymology and the
story of the first gadget
The etymology of the word is disputed. A widely
circulated story holds that the word gadget was "invented“
when Gaget, Gauthier & Cie, the company behind
the repoussé construction of the Statue of Liberty (1886),
made a small-scale version of the monument and named it
after their firm; however this contradicts the evidence that
the word was already used before in nautical circles, and
the fact that it did not become popular, at least in the USA,
until after World War I. Other sources cite a derivation
from the French gâchette which has been applied to
various pieces of a firing mechanism, or the French gagée, a
small tool or accessory.
4. When how & why were
they created?
Gadgets were created to solve people’s
problems. It is believed that the first device that
man created to help himself was the wheel. This
item has changed the human history and
development. Although the term gadget is
usually used for more complicated items the
wheel is the object from which all the others
were created.
5. Which are the uses of the
gadgets?
• There is no doubt that gadgets are useful to us.
But how do they help us? For example take your
mobile phone ,an everyday device, you use it to
call someone, take a picture, play a game, make a
note, listen to a song, check your email and so
many others. However, there are and some other
uses of gadgets. There are items that are used for
storage (of toys, food etc.) or for protection (as
cases). Every type of gadget has its own use and it
was made to suit a particular need.
6. Different kinds of gadgets
• Most of the items we use today can be
considered as gadgets here are some common
or uncommon that I found on the internet.
There are gadgets for fun like fake snow
aromatic candles, cups with special messages
or pens and car keys that cause a small electric
shock. There are personal gadgets such as a
case for your toothbrush, a watch, key rings
with a particular use. Some gadgets are useful
for your house or office.

• In Greece there are several stores where you
can get the latest gadgets on the market.
Some of these are
