William Shakespeare
•Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of
 husbandry.
This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell: my blessing season this in thee!"
 --Lord Polonius, Hamlet Act I,
 Scene 3
Biography
• William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 – 23 April
1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely
regarded as the greatest writer in the English language
and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called
England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon".His
surviving works, including some collaborations, consist
of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative
poems, two epitaphs on a man named John Combe, one
epitaph on Elias James, and several other poems. His
plays have been translated into every major living
language and are performed more often than those of
  any other playwright.
•
• He was born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon. At
the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom
he had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet
and Judith. Between 1585 and 1592, he began a
successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part
owner of a playing company called the Lord
Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. He
appears to have retired to Stratford around 1613 at age
49, where he died three years later. Few records of
Shakespeare's private life survive, and there has been
considerable speculation about such matters as his
physical appearance, sexuality, religious beliefs, and
whether the works attributed to him were written by
  others.
• Shakespeare produced most of his known work between
1589 and 1613. His early plays were
mainly comedies and histories, genres he raised to the
peak of sophistication and artistry by the end of the 16th
century. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about
1608, including Hamlet, King Lear, Othello,
and Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the
English language. In his last phase, he wrote
tragicomedies, also known as romances, and
  collaborated with other playwrights.
Critics-Impact
• Many of his plays were published in editions of varying quality and
accuracy during his lifetime. In 1623, two of his former theatrical
colleagues published the First Folio, a collected edition of his
dramatic works that included all but two of the plays now recognised
    as Shakespeare's.
• Shakespeare was a respected poet and playwright in his own day,
but his reputation did not rise to its present heights until the 19th
century. The Romantics, in particular, acclaimed Shakespeare's
genius, and the Victorians worshipped Shakespeare with a
reverence that George Bernard Shaw called "bardolatry". In the 20th
century, his work was repeatedly adopted and rediscovered by new
movements in scholarship and performance. His plays remain highly
popular today and are constantly studied, performed, and
reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the
    world.
FAMOUS WORKS
Here are presented some of his most famous works and
  some information about them!
Theese are:
• MacBeth
• Julius Ceasar
• Hamlet
• And Romeo and Juliet
MacBeth
• Macbeth is considered one of his darkest and most
powerful tragedies. Set in Scotland, the play dramatizes
the corroding psychological and political effects
produced when its protagonist, the Scottish lord
Macbeth, chooses evil as the way to fulfill his ambition
for power. He commits regicide to become king and then
furthers his moral descent with a reign of murderous
terror to stay in power, eventually plunging the country
into civil war. In the end, he loses everything that gives
meaning and purpose to his life before losing his life
  itself.
• The play is believed to have been written between 1603
  and 1607
Julius Ceasar
• Julius Caesar is a tragedy by William Shakespeare,
believed to have been written in 1599. It portrays the 44
BC conspiracy against the Roman dictator Julius
Caesar, his assassination and the defeat of the
conspirators at the Battle of Philippi. It is one of several
Roman plays that Shakespeare wrote, based on true
events from Roman history, which also
include Coriolanus and Antony and Cleopatra.
• Although the title is Julius Caesar, Caesar is not the
most visible character in its action; he appears in only
three scenes, and is killed at the beginning of the third
act. Marcus Brutus speaks more than four times as
many lines, and the central psychological drama is his
struggle between the conflicting demands of honour,
  patriotism, and friendship.
Hamlet
• The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is
a tragedy by William Shakespeare. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark,
the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet exacts on his
uncle Claudius for murdering King Hamlt, Claudius's brother and
Prince Hamlet's father, and then succeeding to the throne and
taking as his wife Gertrude, the old king's widow and Prince
Hamlet's mother. The play vividly portrays both true and feigned
madness – from overwhelming grief to seething rage – and explores
themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption and
    family.
• Hamlet is Shakespeare's longest play and among the most powerful
and influential tragedies in all of English literature, with a story
capable of "seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by
others."[1] The play was one of Shakespeare's most popular works
during his lifetime[2] and still ranks among his most-performed,
topping the Royal Shakespeare Company's performance list since
    1879
Romeo and Juliet
• Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written early in the
career of William Shakespeare about two young star-
crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their
feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most
popular plays during his lifetime and, along with Hamlet,
is one of his most frequently performed plays. Today, the
title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers.
• Romeo and Juliet belongs to a tradition of
tragic romances stretching back to antiquity. It is set in
Verona,Italy. Written in the late 16th century one os
  Shakespearce’s earliest plays.
Impact in the arts
• Many of Sheakspeare’s works have a large impact in
theatre and cinema. Most of his works are world-famous
and have been read for more than 400 years. Also many
of his works have inspired great artists.
