EXERCISE TIME
So clearly I have all of the answers...
WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU?
EXERCISE TIME
It is hard to have a truly successful
business if things aren’t right up top.
We get to choose our attitude - so why not choose the right one?
Face up to reality.

                  STEP 2
       Figure out what
       bad habits have
         snuck into our
       daily lives - and
        get rid of them.
What we focus our attention on the
most is normally what we get the most of.
We had better focus wisely.
It is time to get a
little uncomfortable -
that is when we
grow the most.
When you lay down
with dogs, you get up
           with fleas.
Sometimes we have to
let the situation play
out - it might end up
better than we first
thought.
Perhaps this is the perfect time to do some of the things you have
                         been putting off?
Reflecting on what we have, not what
we have not, is a good thing.
Beware of hot dogs
The grass is not
always greener.
Celebrate much more
often and much louder.
EXERCISE TIME
WHERE DO BUSINESSES GO WRONG?
Many different types of
businesses have evolved in
      recent years...
1 The “I am too busy to deal with you” business
2 The “no, no, no” business
3 The “that’s our policy” business
4 The “we hate our business so we hate you”
                    business
5 The “she’ll be right” business
6 The “we’ll get right back to you” business
7 The “we just don’t care” business
8 The “smart arse” business
9 The “how can we make this transaction really, really
                 complicated?” business
10 The “we have no idea what we are
             doing” business
Of course none of these apply to
     your business (or mine)
           I am sure...
EXERCISE TIME
10 MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS IN BUILDING A
         TRULY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS
1. Be very clear about where you are heading
2. We need to stand out from the crowd.
3. We need to get much
better at communicating.
4. It is all about
our customer
connection.
5. It’s time to get creative.

We are pretty certain no tortoises got hurt in the making of this photo........but if they did, it was nothing serious.
6. We can’t sit back and wait for business to come to us.
7. We have to get much better at selling.
8. We have to be great
 corporate citizens.
9. We have to give marketing the
     attention it deserves.

EXERCISE TIME
Let’s talk about some of these in more detail.
1. Be very clear about where you are heading
EXERCISE TIME
2. We need to stand out from the crowd.
3. We need to get much
better at communicating.
4. It is all about
our customer
connection.
Consumers have changed, a lot, in the past
              ten years.

If we don’t know how to reach them and
most importantly how to connect with
them, we are in big trouble.
They are less
  trusting They are harder to
                      reach
                                     They are time
                                       deprived

                                     There is more
                                        clutter

                                         They are
                                     overwhelmed with
                                          choice
Word of mouth, in
                                  its various forms, is
                                          HUGE.

                                         Social networks, in
                                         all shapes and sizes
                                              are growing.

different sources.
If we don’t know how to reach them,
engage them, build a long term
   relationship with them, look out.
1. Be clear on your beliefs
regarding your customers.
2. Review your moments of truth
3. Treat people as
    individuals.
4. Have “THE TALK”
5. Save time, save
money, make it easy.
6. Be prepared to
 do what others
     are not.
7. Communicate to
 suit the customer
       not you.
8. Be unexpected wherever and whenever you can.
5. It’s time to get creative.

We are pretty certain no tortoises got hurt in the making of this photo........but if they did, it was nothing serious.
1 Creative businesses are becoming more
successful - because they keep trying new ideas.
2 It’s really hard to be creative when you are
    exhausted.
3 Look at the success stories - what is their
    common characteristic?
4 Devote time to “being creative” on a weekly
    basis.
5 Creative people have a thirst for knowledge - they
    research a lot.
6. We can’t sit back and wait for business to come to us.
We all need to get out a lot more.
Lets look for new markets
(many are right under our noses).
Build a big network.
EXERCISE TIME
7. We have to get much better at selling.
1 Most people are crap at selling.
2 The importance of product knowledge.
3 The power of recommendations.
4 Understanding the relationship between sales
    and great customer service.
5 Talk about selling - make it a part of your
    business, not a taboo subject.
8. We have to be great
 corporate citizens.
1 Just think BP.
2 Your customers expect it of you.
3 Better to focus on one main cause.
4 Tell your customers what you are doing.
5 Create a “make a difference” culture.
9. We have to give marketing the
     attention it deserves.

MY BRAIN HURTS
1. Get excited about the things you market.
2. Be BOLD, make a
    statement.
3. Never underestimate
   the importance of
         image.
4. We have to
build rock solid
relationships.
5. Try new things - even
if they may feel a bit strange at
first.
6. If you are not embracing technology, specifically the web,
look out.
And Build Marketing
    Momentum

EXERCISE TIME
10. We have to open our eyes.
TAKING ACTION
1 Identify what action you need to take.
2 Be specific about what needs to be done, by
    whom and by when.
3 Monitor it daily or as a minimum weekly.
4 If you get off track, get back on track.
5 If you are serious about taking action, you have to
devote your best time and energy to the process.
TODAY.
WHAT ARE YOUR KEY “LIGHT BULB” MOMENTS FROM TODAY?
THANK YOU.
