2. ACTIVE VOICE
• In an active sentence, the subject is doing the
action. A straightforward example is the
sentence "Steve loves Amy." Steve is the
subject, and he is doing the action: he
loves Amy, the object of the sentence.
• The active voice is the "normal" voice. This
is the voice that we use most of the time.
• You are probably already familiar with the
active voice. In the active
voice, the object receives the action of the
verb.

5. PASSIVE VOICE
• Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It
is not important or not known, however, who or what is
performing the action. Example: My bike was stolen.
• Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle (3rd
column of irregular verbs).
• The passive voice indicates what happened to the object
where the object is acted upon by an outside
agent, which can be hidden or highlighted depending on
the situation.
• The passive voice is less usual. In the passive
voice, the subject receives the action of the verb.
