Gut Busters ! Who wants a challenge ?
Kick off for this 8 week Gut Buster league challenge starts on the 11th
September .We are
looking for 40 volunteers from each garage and support services to participate. It involves
a physical health challenge of 8 weeks .Each participant will be given a pack that
explains the program. Running along side the program will be other support networks in
helping you change to a healthier lifestyle.
Each location will have a weight watchers course running for the total 8 weeks. For
interested smokers who want to give up there will be smoking cessation courses .Every
week a different health topic will be highlighted.
To explain how the league table works , before starting the course each volunteer will
have their waist measured and some other measurements like blood pressure, cholesterol
and weight. Each team will have the total number of inches calculated and drawn up on a
league table .As the weeks go on hopefully the total number of inches per team decreases.
As a member of the team you will have to attend a weight watchers program 1 hour a
week also you will have to take up a simple fitness program that will suit people of all
fitness levels.
The fitness program starts off with a walking challenge, gym challenge and finally a
dance challenge which is voluntary.

Have you got the drive? Are you up for a go? Would you take the leap? Jump at the
chance?
This is a dance fitness class with a difference we’re looking for bus drivers and others
with guts! This is a class where you can dance to some of the best music around and shed
a few pounds as you go. Standing or sitting you can join in and even if you’ve never
danced before you’ll get to learn some new moves and try a little fancy footwork. At the
end of it all you’ll get the chance to take part in a specially choreographed show that is
guaranteed to get everyone on their feet.
Go on, go on, go on, out of the old routine and into the new!
Program of Lectures
Week 1 Exercise – shaping up
Week 2 Lung Function testing/sign up for smoking cessation classes
Week 3 Nutrition –Good lunch /Bad lunch
Week 4 Drugs and alcohol and you !
Week 5 Stress management /What is stress ?
Week 6 Psychology of changing to a healthier lifestyle /goal setting ,visualization
Week 7 Health and Safety week -Ergonomics
Week 8 Men/Female Health/Irish cancer prevention lecture
For each focus week there will be rotating lectures in all the locations .So everybody has
a chance to attend even if not participating in the challenge. Timetables will be up a week
in advance on plasma screens , notice boards etc.
