How to define client’s needs when initiating an interactive project?

What is a project?
‣ A project is an assigned work that could be set by
client with certain time period and cost.
‣ It is sort of extended working module is running
parallel with the core company.

‣ Combine core professional skills with business
and management (England & Finney: Managing

‣ Interactive Media Project is a term used to
manage a working formation, perceiving user’s
interest as well as client demands to find out
profitable result.

It is framed within time, cost and quality and look
like triangular field

Initiating a interactive project (or any design project)
When initiating a project it is important to get the needed
information so that the project can be a successful one. This
should be done before the project starts so that everyone is
clear about what is to be done, how much it shall cost and
the time-frame of the project.
Scoping the project
‣ the business case
‣ business objectives
‣ user objectives
‣ the target audience, their present profile
and behaviour with the relevant technology
‣ the proposed timescale
‣ the name of the budget holder
‣ the likely budget
‣ the present technology infrastructure the client has available
‣ any preferences for features
(perhaps they have seen some features used by competitors)
‣ any known constrains
‣ contact information with named people to consult and work with
‣ the sign-off authority and turn-around time for sign-off
Scoping is crucial
‣ irrespective to size or cost scoping is crucial for a successful
project.
‣ Forced to start with little information? - make it clear in
writing exactly what you will do based on the information
you got, but you will revise the schedule and costs
according to further information
‣ Involve your whole team and specialists when scoping
information
To show that you are the right company for the job
‣ Collect the right information
‣ Translating this information into appropriated
solutions
‣ Showing that this solutions suits the client’s needs
‣ Defining stakeholders
‣ Creating lists
‣ Using matrixes for locating stakeholders possible
influences
‣ RACI responsibility chart ( Responsible,
Accountable, Consulted, Informed )
‣ Communication chart ( Type, Format,
Frequency, Method)
