s a little girl, Shannon Smith of Halifax, Nova
Scotia, had huge dreams. Confident and
ambitious, at 31 she had done all the things
little girls were “supposed to do.” She had gone to
school, earned two degrees, gotten married, had a
baby, and she loved working with her patients as a
mental health nurse — yet something was missing.
Two years ago, if someone told me I’d be a Regional Vice President with
Arbonne, I would’ve said they were crazy! I wasn’t looking for anything
extra in my busy life. I’d been a mental health nurse for five years. I loved
working with patients with eating disorders, but I felt something was
missing. I was always saying, “I’ll be happy when ...”
Growing up, my parents told me I could be anything. What I heard was,
I had to be everything to everyone. The execution of perfection was
exhausting. Then my husband lost his job. I put my career dreams on
hold and worked harder just to make ends meet. I thought, “I’ll do what
I want to do in my forties, when my kids are in school.”
When my friend Nadine started her Arbonne business, she said I’d be
great at it. I disagreed. I thought I knew what Arbonne was; something
you did for a few hundred dollars a month. I could work overtime for that.
What I didn’t know was Arbonne could offer financial and time freedom.

I did my own research and was blown away by the caliber of people
having huge success. I realized that smart people do Arbonne. Once I
discovered network marketing could allow me the opportunity to retire
early, I was sold. But I almost didn’t do it because of fear.
Thank God I jumped in anyway! Six months later, my husband became
a stay-at-home dad to our daughter. Now, she’s just started school and
we both work when we want to, not because we have to. She loves the
days when we’re both home. She proudly exclaims, “It’s family day!”
Our business is simple. We teach you to stop buying your personal care
and health and wellness products from retail stores and start buying

an extra income stream with limitless potential.
I knew Arbonne was a gift I needed to share. I loved that I could do this on
a one-to-one basis over coffee, working part time. At first, self-discipline
was hard for me, but I knew the payoff would be huge.
My advice is to jump in and be here a year from now. Focus daily on
personal development and learning the skills. You will be supported and
recognized every step of the way. And it will become more fun than you
can imagine. I feel like I have a paid social life!
When I signed up, ERVP Jenn Amirault said, “Women at the top of this
company are starting charities and foundations. You could start a resi-
dential treatment centre for eating disorders.” I welled up with tears. That
was the kind of dream I had when I was a little girl.
Now, it’s my mission to use my Arbonne business as a vehicle to advance
eating disorder treatment in Nova Scotia.
To my team: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am humbled to
now be an RVP because of you. It is a privilege to help you face your fears
as you build your own dream lives. I know you will all be right behind me!
To my best friend, AM Terri Buckland: You were my biggest supporter from
day one, as my best Client and then my first “sponsor up.” Thank you for
keeping me grounded. I love that we share this vision of a life of freedom!
To AM Jill Decoste: You were the girl I thought I had to rein in! Thank you
for being a force to be reckoned with. I am so proud of you. Persistence
pays off!
To AM Genevieve Collis: You’re an incredible nurse, but you were born
for business. Thank you for your insane work ethic. You have a grit factor
that will take you straight to the top!
To AM Amy Burnie: We’d only met briefly through nursing, but I knew our
paths would cross again. Working with you has been a dream come true!
Thank you for your passion, huge vision, and support.
To my sideline RVPs: Colleen, you are the most gracious and generous
leader. Ashley, your focus and drive inspire me. Thank you for going first!
To my upline ERVPs, Jennifer Amirault and Jane Thibault: Thank you for
having my back like the big sisters I never had.
To Nadine Quinn: Thank you for insisting I would be great at Arbonne. I
wouldn’t have had the courage to do it without you.
To my Sponsor, NVP Natalie Mullins: Thank you for being the “lone nut”
and inspiring me to be your first follower! Because of you, I look forward
to a future full of excitement. I can be with my family and friends, travel
the world and inspire others to live their best lives.
To my parents, in-laws, grandparents, and siblings: Thank you for all the
babysitting and for always encouraging me to pursue my dreams. I love
you guys!
To my husband, Nick: You are one in a million. Thank you for working just
as hard as me toward this goal. I love you. Natalie and I are so blessed
to have you!
To my daughter, Natalie: Thank you for being my little girl and inspiring
me to keep going. You can do anything you set your mind to. You’re my
precious little angel, and I love you.
