• Became an OSGeo project in 2008
• Fully cross-platform- Windows, Linux, Mac and soon
mobile
• Active community of users and developers
• Regular release cycle- both “bleeding edge” and stable
• Plugin architecture allows third-party extensions
• Many companies offering commercial support
