2. Poster Ideas and Inspirations
The goal film itself has had a big influence on my film but the poster I
think is excellent. There are several posters that have been made for
this film but I think this one has had the biggest influence on what I
want to do. As you can see from this picture the football and the kit
signifies the sporting element but the environment around the player
and the way he is almost praying to the ball gives the poster a real
dramatic edge. The use of the colours and the Mise-en-scene as well in
this poster is really eye catching and this draws the audience in
because that is what drew me in and I think that will have the same
effect on the audience. Also the use of the white title, and the tagline
against the black section of the poster is also eye catching. I think the
tagline with the title is really effective "GOAL the dream begins" this
goes well with the genre of the film and tells the audience clearly what
the film will be about, for example the dream begins tells the audience
that the character in the poster has achieved something (Professional
footballer) and this film will follow his actions leading up to his success.
The Mise-en-Scene is also very effective because it is dramatic the
player is by himself, looking out like he is calling to the sky and this is a
very dramatic eye catching scene.
This poster has inspired my design greatly because the the essence of
sport and drama captured in the poster is really good and this is what I
will want to do with my poster. The only problems I can see arising is
with the Mise-en-scene I do not have any locations that are as
dramatic as this but either using the green screen at school or going
out and finding a location that could also capture some essence of
drama is going to be the main thing to do with my poster. And because
my film will mainly be about one person I need to do what this poster
has done put all the focus onto the main character because as you can
see he is the main focus of the poster and this is something else I need
to do.
3. Magazine Ideas and Inspirations
I couldn’t decide which magazine cover to review so I decided to
use both. Both of these posters have inspired my magazine cover
design greatly I think they’re both excellent, The design aspect
of both of them are great and this is where my ideas will stem
from. Instantly you notice who the magazine is about in these
cases (Jaco Taute and Manu Tuilagi) the main focus is directed
on to those two they stand out a lot, and they are both striking
both dramatic poses, but the SA Rugby magazine is even better
due to the flare effects. The taglines of both magazines stand out
a lot such as “The Chosen One” and “Jaco Taute” both of these
stand out due to the colours and the size of the text. Also as you
will notice there is not a great deal of text but the magazine
cover is still filled up and still looks very stylish, this is something I
will hope to do with my magazine e.g. put a picture in but then
include several made up or real life gossip issues and include
them on the front of my magazine cover.
The reason these two covers have inspired my work so much
because these are designs that I would want if I were to do a
sporting magazine which is what I want to do. There isn’t much
Mise-en-Scene in either of the pictures but the main image and
main focus of the magazine cover is the players which is what I
want to do with my magazine. Rugby World magazine has a
much more simple design but Is really well done which is the one
that has inspired my magazine the most and I also think in terms
of resources this is the one that I will have to do, although the SA
Rugby magazine is really well done with the fancy word arts and
flare effects behind the player I don’t think I have the skill level
required in Photoshop yet that will allow me to do this but with
some practice maybe I can. But with what skills I do have I feel
that I could do a similar Rugby World magazine design in terms
of the simplicity of it but it looks so well done.
4. My Idea (Magazine Cover)
Here is a brief draft of my magazine
cover, this is just a rough design of what
my magazine could look like, I think this
could possibly be the design I want to
use, the reason for this is because I can
get everything onto it and not have to
much text so that the attention is taken
away from the main aim of the
magazine cover ( The player and
taglines) the design is very simple but I
think it is one of the best magazine
designs. The only things I need to
consider now is things such as colours
scheme, the image and Mise-en-Scene.
The main colours I think I am going to
use for my poster and my magazine
cover are blue and white with yellow
and white text. The reasons for this is
because I like the colours and they are
all quite sporty colours a lot of teams
and sports are associated with white
and blue and the text colours will stand
out on the background.
5. My Ideas (Poster Cover)
Title placed across the back wall
This is my main idea for my poster, the
reason I have chosen this image is because I
think it has all the elements I want in a
poster these elements being, sports and
drama. As you can see though I have
annotated some elements myself for
example the title and extra text that would
be there, also changing the American
football to a normal football or a pair of
boots. The reason I would do that is because
the main sports I am focusing on is Football
and Running. I think this would be a very
good location to use because the shot itself
looks very dramatic due to the Mise-enScene this being the dark and empty room.
The only other image I would like to use is
an empty bench in a changing room and a
player sat there again in the dark for added
effect. But I will come to this in later
development of my work.
