Comet ISON was discovered in 2012 by Russian astronomers using a telescope in Russia. As it gets closer to the sun, the comet will brighten and grow in size. When first sighted, Comet ISON was over 625 million miles from Earth and measured 18.8 on the magnitude scale, which is 100,000 times fainter than what the human eye can see.
