Today, you have received your child‟s End of Year Report that evaluates achievement and
effort across the identified curriculum areas. Please take time to read this with your child
and in particular look at the targets that have been identified for their future learning.
Next week, on Wednesday 17th June, I would like to invite all parents to come into
school and visit your child‟s classroom between 2.00pm and 3.00pm. This will be a chance
for your child to guide you through the work that has taken place this year. A follow up
letter will be sent to all parents as a reminder on Monday.
In addition to today‟s report, you have also received your child‟s finalised class allocation
for the forthcoming academic year, including the class teacher, class name and room allo-
cation. Thank you for your support within this process.
On Saturday 30th May, it was a privilege for me to attend our Year 13 graduate ceremony at the Rex Hotel to
mark the transition of these students from BIS. Ms Lara Vu from UNICEF was the guest speaker, with reflec-
tions on the past, present and future from Mr Richard Dyer and the outgoing Head Boy and Head Girl. The
word integrity that sits at the top of our aide memoire, was an on-going theme throughout the morning as it
helps us all, whether you are 5 years old or 18 years old, to live our lives in the manner that is expected of all
students that attend the three BIS campuses in HCMC.
As a Head Teacher, it is always very satisfying to see so many young adults being both academically chal-
lenged and socially equipped to enter the next phase in their exciting lives and knowing that both their Pri-
mary and Secondary years at BIS has allowed them to be where there are now and attend the world‟s elite
universities across the globe. Do not underestimate the journey that these students have undertaken and I
look forward to seeing the next generation of graduates moving through our school, equipped to make a posi-
tive difference in the wider world.
This week the final four year 6 classes returned to school from
their adventures in Malaysia. It has been great to hear about
the many challenges that they had to overcome and the many
friendships that had been strengthened and forged during the
residential. More details and pictures can be found on page 3.
Congratulations to all 240 children that took part in the AP1
Summer Concert on Thursday, entitled ‟Name That Tune‟. With
the aim of making music accessible to all, the children put on a
memorable show with both choir and orchestral pieces from
Take That to The Carpenters. The concert concluded with a rousing rendition of ‟Hey Jude‟ from The Beatles.
All of the audience joined in with the chorus whilst waving their arms in appreciation - well done everybody!
Pictures from yesterday‟s event can be found on page 4.
Good luck to all children who are taking part in the BIS Aquathlon on Saturday. An update regarding a slight
change to briefing and race times can be found on page 6.
Finally, I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 15th June for our first „Messy Hands‟ art exhibition at
AP1. Again, details for this event can be found in the newsletter on page 10. Have a great weekend!

Year 6 - Trip to Malaysia
Speak to any of our Year 6 pupils and they will tell you what an amazing time they had on their residential trip
to Earth Camp in Malaysia!
The classes were split to go on two separate trips over the course of two weeks, with 6N and 6I venturing off
into the jungle first followed by 6S, 6V, 6B and 6H the week after. All of the pupils experienced the same activi-
ties, starting with a gentle walk around the village to learn more about the culture and environment of Malay-
sia. After this, we headed to the famous Gua Temperung caves where we walked for nearly an hour into the
depths. On the second day, the pupils were split into two activity groups. The first group went to experience the
excitement of „Mountain School‟ where they were challenged to climb, swing and zip through the trees. The se-
cond group spent the day on the river, learning how to swim safely in a current, how to save one another with
throw bags and how to cross the river safely as a team. In the afternoon, they rafted down the river in teams
and raced the teachers back to camp! The groups swapped over the next day which gave everyone a chance to
discuss what their favourite activity was.
The pupils shone throughout the trip, with many surprising us and themselves with their bravery, risk taking,
personal drive and independence. They all agree that it was an experience that they will never forget!
The Year 6 teachers would like to congratulate all of the pupils on their enthusiasm and achievements. We
would also like to say a huge thank you to Mr John for organising such a successful trip.
Next year? Bring it on!
The Year 6 Team.
Summer Music Concert - ‘Name That Tune’
Issue 35/Page 4
This year‟s AP1 Summer Concert was a fantastic event, with an entire programme of instantly recognisable
tunes. The concert began with a rousing performance from our Rock Band “Black Thunder”, followed by excit-
ing items from our four choirs and a host of instrumental groups including the String Orchestra, Ukulele Club
and Drumming Club. The concert culminated in an amazing rendition of “Hey Jude” featuring all 240 children
either singing or playing along. Once again, the young musicians of AP1 have made us extremely proud of
their hard work, commitment and success.

  • 2. From The Headteacher - Mr Simon Higham Issue 35/Page 2 Today, you have received your child‟s End of Year Report that evaluates achievement and effort across the identified curriculum areas. Please take time to read this with your child and in particular look at the targets that have been identified for their future learning. Next week, on Wednesday 17th June, I would like to invite all parents to come into school and visit your child‟s classroom between 2.00pm and 3.00pm. This will be a chance for your child to guide you through the work that has taken place this year. A follow up letter will be sent to all parents as a reminder on Monday. In addition to today‟s report, you have also received your child‟s finalised class allocation for the forthcoming academic year, including the class teacher, class name and room allo- cation. Thank you for your support within this process. On Saturday 30th May, it was a privilege for me to attend our Year 13 graduate ceremony at the Rex Hotel to mark the transition of these students from BIS. Ms Lara Vu from UNICEF was the guest speaker, with reflec- tions on the past, present and future from Mr Richard Dyer and the outgoing Head Boy and Head Girl. The word integrity that sits at the top of our aide memoire, was an on-going theme throughout the morning as it helps us all, whether you are 5 years old or 18 years old, to live our lives in the manner that is expected of all students that attend the three BIS campuses in HCMC. As a Head Teacher, it is always very satisfying to see so many young adults being both academically chal- lenged and socially equipped to enter the next phase in their exciting lives and knowing that both their Pri- mary and Secondary years at BIS has allowed them to be where there are now and attend the world‟s elite universities across the globe. Do not underestimate the journey that these students have undertaken and I look forward to seeing the next generation of graduates moving through our school, equipped to make a posi- tive difference in the wider world. This week the final four year 6 classes returned to school from their adventures in Malaysia. It has been great to hear about the many challenges that they had to overcome and the many friendships that had been strengthened and forged during the residential. More details and pictures can be found on page 3. Congratulations to all 240 children that took part in the AP1 Summer Concert on Thursday, entitled ‟Name That Tune‟. With the aim of making music accessible to all, the children put on a memorable show with both choir and orchestral pieces from Take That to The Carpenters. An update regarding a slight change to briefing and race times can be found on page 6. Finally, I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 15th June for our first „Messy Hands‟ art exhibition at AP1. Again, details for this event can be found in the newsletter on page 10. Have a great weekend!
  • 3. Issue 35/Page 3 Year 6 - Trip to Malaysia Speak to any of our Year 6 pupils and they will tell you what an amazing time they had on their residential trip to Earth Camp in Malaysia! The classes were split to go on two separate trips over the course of two weeks, with 6N and 6I venturing off into the jungle first followed by 6S, 6V, 6B and 6H the week after. All of the pupils experienced the same activi- ties, starting with a gentle walk around the village to learn more about the culture and environment of Malay- sia. After this, we headed to the famous Gua Temperung caves where we walked for nearly an hour into the depths. On the second day, the pupils were split into two activity groups. The first group went to experience the excitement of „Mountain School‟ where they were challenged to climb, swing and zip through the trees. The se- cond group spent the day on the river, learning how to swim safely in a current, how to save one another with throw bags and how to cross the river safely as a team. In the afternoon, they rafted down the river in teams and raced the teachers back to camp! The groups swapped over the next day which gave everyone a chance to discuss what their favourite activity was. The pupils shone throughout the trip, with many surprising us and themselves with their bravery, risk taking, personal drive and independence. They all agree that it was an experience that they will never forget! The Year 6 teachers would like to congratulate all of the pupils on their enthusiasm and achievements. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Mr John for organising such a successful trip. Next year? Bring it on! The Year 6 Team.
  • 4. Summer Music Concert - ‘Name That Tune’ Issue 35/Page 4 This year‟s AP1 Summer Concert was a fantastic event, with an entire programme of instantly recognisable tunes. The concert began with a rousing performance from our Rock Band “Black Thunder”, followed by excit- ing items from our four choirs and a host of instrumental groups including the String Orchestra, Ukulele Club and Drumming Club. The concert culminated in an amazing rendition of “Hey Jude” featuring all 240 children either singing or playing along. Once again, the young musicians of AP1 have made us extremely proud of their hard work, commitment and success. Mrs Elizabeth Bown Music Leader
