Bernadette Lee proposes designing a series of Pokémon-themed t-shirt designs. The first design will feature all of the Water-type starter Pokémon from different games in a sporting style, to represent Lee's personal preference for Water-type Pokémon. Additional designs will showcase Evolution of Pokémon or gaming consoles over time, as well as a humorous design depicting the annoyance of encountering Weedle early in the games. Lee provides mood boards and sketches as well as a schedule to develop a final Water-type Pokémon t-shirt design by a Wednesday deadline.
5. Ideas One
Pokemon has evolved over time, with different
games, regions and Pokemon's being created for the
games, as well as the consoles themselves.
I wanted to create a t-shirt that represented this evolution
in a similar style to Charles Darwin’s Evolution of Man.
I could achieve this in two ways; Using consoles showing
how the they have evolved, or using Pokemon following
each other.
It would be using two different ideas; the evolution of
man, as well as the evolution of the game which gamers
would understand.
6. Ideas Two
I was thinking about designing a T-shirt that represented
one Pokemon that almost all true Pokemon gamers find
annoying; Weedle.
Weedle pops up a lot when you are first training your
Pokemon and it’s a Pokemon which more trainers find
annoying, pointless, and far too easy to defeat – without
any real gain in EXP points for their Pokemon.
I would like to create a fight scene with a Weedle, against
a stronger Pokemon.
I found the following slide’s screen shots from the game
which I would remaster to create a the t-shirt.
I wanted to caption the t-shirt with ‘Aint no body got time
for that!’ which is a quote from an internet sensation
called Sweet Brown, who was featured in a News Report
regarding a fire. Her quote has created ‘remixes’ on
Youtube.
This quote also will represent a gamers desire to reach the
gyms, and higher leveled Pokemon – which will gain their
Pokemon more EXP points when defeated as well as the
frustration that this pointless Pokemon causes.

8. Ideas Three
Gamers are often criticized for ‘wasting time’ playing
games. I would like to create a t-shirt that used a
famous Pokemon quote from The Pokemon Television
Series (1997) which true fans would understand.
I would like to twist part of a quote from James, from
Team Rocket, when him and Jessie realize that stealing
Pikachu wasn’t worth it.
I would however like to use all the gym badges from
the Pokemon Leagues, from all the different versions
as well, which represents someone who plays
Pokemon’s loyalty in playing each game until the end.
I would like to use ‘We've wasted all this time’ which
came from the quote below;
Jessie: If Pikachu loses this battle...
James of Team Rocket: You're right! It's not worth
stealing after all. We've wasted all this time.
To the right is the list of the badges.
9. People who play Pokemon tend to be very religious in
the Pokemon type that they pick at the beginning of a
game.
They have a choice of Pokemon from Fire, Grass or
Water to play with and I wanted to create a T-shirt
which featured all the Pokemon of these different
types together, in a sport style.
I would like to create a t-shirt which represents all the
water Pokemon from the different games;
Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup, Oshawott and
Froakie which are features over each of the games.
I would like to design this water Pokemon T-shirt first
because I’m someone who always picks the Water type
Pokemon as a starter Pokemon.
I would like to follow this design with all the Pokemon
from the Fire type and then all the Pokemon from the
Grass type.
This would create a set of T-shirts that fans could wear.

10. Final Mood Board
I want to pursue my fourth idea as a final
design using the water start Pokemon first.
I want to also use Superdry’s sporting style
in my design.
I would use blues in my colour scheme to
make sure that my design was in keeping
with the water Pokemon loyalty theme.

Dimensions
2400 by 3200 pixels
Export Format
PNG
Advantages; Compatible with Redbubble and it can save transparency and
lowered opacity
Disadvantages; Larger file size than similar formats such as JPEG
Audience
My audience would have grown up with Pokemon, and therefore would be between
teenage years and late twenties. The gender for Pokemon tends to be male, however
it is a game that has a relative large female audience in comparison to other games.
Pokemon players have an interest in gaming in general, and come from middle class
background. However it is a game that has been subjected to the ‘retro cool’ culture,
which has meant that the original games and consoles have become harder and more
expensive to find.

13. Digital Flat Plan
This is a rough template for what I
am going to design.
It shows the six different starter
Pokemon of the Water Type.
It also shows a rough banner
which I have taken from Superdry
to help fit in with the sports
theme.
To the right are styles of design I
would like to use and build upon.
