30. Conclusions
Social media can offer ways for everyone to participate in
BIM workflows
The only limits are those you impose on yourself
Creating data sets requires rules; it needs process and
procedures
You need to be able to search and recycle the data

Whether you are in the supermarket or searching
for information on Google maps,
classification is the key to finding what you want
BIM Task Group newsletter 9th June 2012 – Uniclass 2 Demystified
Duncan Reed (Tekla; @djhreed67) - talking on "Sharing BIM data through social media" at #Be2Talks, 25 Sept, Londonhttp://www.be2awards.com/be2talks-speakers/ The world is awash with data, and whilst I wouldn’t say I fully understand all the ramifications of Big Data I do see the need to understand and manage this in a construction context. Social media applications offer many ways to share data so why not BIM data too? So do we need a structured data approach to SM or is this by its very nature an oxymoron?
Not a specialist at this SM stuff but a regular untrained user. See the potential but not ultra skilled.http://www.ted.com/tedx

At what point does social media become the way to do business – is Evernote social media or a business software solution? What do they all have in common – freeI appreciate that this applies mainly to the members of the team who are receiving BIM data rather than authoring it but it out to be possible therefore to dispel the rumour that ‘doping BIM’ is expensive.Neither is this fully encompassing to al the processes needed but I'm sure there are other Apps out there that fill in the gaps you may be thinking of.......
Now I realise all of this isn’t seamlessly joined up but each product allows you to do BIM as a process and as the data is electronic can be cut and pasted across. So BIM Level 1-2 now.
Can we apply, or should we even think about applying.........
On a good day we have a reasonable filing system that we can drill down into.I know I did a presentation to CE in the NE on behalf of thinkBIM - so here it is for future reference
But equally I'm sure I'm not alone to have ‘dump folders’ – and not exactly recent ones either.
Thanks to Stefan Mordue for sharing these slides from the BIMHandS event a couple of weeks ago. So it that re-cycling or plagorism??
Arrange information about a particular topicCoordinate and disseminate informationFind and understand informationJoin like information together
So can we take this – BS1192- and apply it to things like these?
http://caseyrutland.com/Yes – information is collated, arranged and presented.
Again, Yes – information is collated, arranged and presented. These are providing general public access to information they might / should / ought to be interested in.But what about more project specific requirements?http://www.slideshare.net/SuButcher
https://vimeo.com/user20651046I’ve uploaded this as a private file but why not find ways to share these files with the team for a specific project. Vimeo may end up not being the answer but until you try you may not know the benefits and risks.
Now - if I Type in ‘BSI BIM Conference’ this doesn't appear – my masterpiece has failed to be noticed!!But lets take this example a bit further perhaps.......
BS1192 / PAS 1192 workflow image – with copyright referenceMany of you will be familiar with this image, either as most of the top only from BS1192 of the full figure from PAS1192-2:2013And once you get your head around it the WIP > Shared > Published system it can be applied in many ways
BS1192 naming of containers workflowSo lets look at my storify record and the BS naming system
Uniclass 2. Chosen to define this as Shared Institutional activity!! AC-25-20-96
Over the top – yes perhaps. But if, for example twitter is being used as a collaboration tool for design development (a design conversation with an appropriate hashtag???) should each set of conversations be captured and filed so that they can be shared and retrieved at a later date?
Have lots of structured data out there, but as we choose more and more ways to collaborate do we need to think about how we access, share and save this burgeoning data set.http://www.bimtaskgroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/BIM-Task-Group-Newsletter-21st-Edition.pdf
