Participation is a reward in itself - AVATAR LANGUAGE?
Natural inclination to recruit friends
Fans generate their own entertainment
This is from data on the types of relationship consumers want with a brand. It’s the basis for why someone would Like a brand’s Facebook page or join their mailing list.
In games, satisfying intrinsic motivational needs is important for immersion and the more you design to create immersion so the more you’ll satisfy intrinsic motivation needs.
Error en open storyworld: un vehiculo, y el resto es enciclopedico
This addresses the agency/time issue but..
..how do we address the communications needs?
Different levels of participation BUT also different engagement types: socializers, explorers, killers & achievers
When we’ve been designing these experiences we’ve found it really helpful (imperative?) to be clear about what’s inside the fictional world, what’s outside and what’s pervasive – meaning we take the story into the real world.
District 9
David Brent is another example of course and “learn guitar with David Brent” is just pure genius. But I’ve included this to introduce another dimension of transmedia storytelling and that is the blending of reality and fiction. Both these comedians blur the boundaries between fact and fiction and even though we know it’s all make believe we’re allowed to use our imagination to enter a parallel universe.
This film, The Game, is my kind of go-to example of how we might imagine new entertainment experiences that blur fiction and reality. The Michael Douglas character enrolls for a special service that builds a fictional role-play with live actors around his every Día life.

Conducttr brings stories to life. Allows Públicos to build a relationship with businesses and with each other.
We’re showing it here to be like lego building bricks where you pick and choose the functionality you need. But you can think of it as an interactive storytelling & gaming platform combined with marketing automation system. It blends marketing and entertainment.
NEXT SLIDE… WHERE’S it all going? – visual language, hybrids, data driven
Takeaway: experiences are important to us – they bring meaning to our existence
