What is Fostering?
How to explain foster parenting to your children.
Once there was an owl family. A mommy owl and a baby owl.
Mommy owl never learned how to be a mommy, so she gave the
baby owl candy instead of mice to eat, and let baby owl go out on his
own when he was too little to watch himself.
So Mrs. Patty came to talk to Mommy Owl.
Mrs. Patty is a social worker, who works for the owls who keeps baby
owls safe and teach adult owls how to be better mommies or
                                daddies.
Mrs. Patty told Mommy Owl that she needed to go to Mommy School
to learn how to be a better mommy to Baby owl. Mrs. Patty said she
would need to take Baby Owl so he could be safe till she finished
                           Mommy School.
Mommy Owl Loved Baby Owl very much, so she knew she needed to
go to Mommy School so he would be safe.
Mommy and Daddy Hoot were foster parents, they took special
Mommy and Daddy classes and loved baby owls very much. The
waited and waited for a baby owl that needed their love.
Mommy and Daddy Hoot were very happy to have Baby Owl to love
while his Mommy went to Mommy School.
But Baby Owl missed his mommy.
Mommy and Daddy Hoot knew that Baby Owl missed his mommy
very much, so they took him for visits with her, and cuddled and held
                       him when he was sad.
Mommy Owl worked very hard at Mommy School. She went
to every visit with Baby owl. Mommy Owl was learning how
to be a better mommy for her baby while Mommy and
                  Daddy Hoot cared for him.
The day finally came where Mommy Owl had finished Mommy
School. Mrs. Patty came to take Baby Owl back to his mommy.
Mommy and Daddy Hoot were sad for him to leave, but happy that
he could be with his mommy now.
Now Mommy and Daddy Hoot can love on another
        baby owl who needs them!
