The current year's report is a result of more than 15,000 hours of fieldwork conducted across 16 Indian cities between July and November 2013, resulting in nearly 20,000 unique brands. Naturally, many Brand Trust ranks have changed this year, some significantly too, but this can only be expected considering that trust is an extremely dynamic bond with even small actions, perceptions, communications impacting it.

Samsung, a South Korean multinational conglomerate company founded in 1938, entered the Indian
market in the mid 90s and established itself as a consumer durable- electronic brand. It has in the last
few years launched numerous products and its most successful endeavors belong to the ‘Galaxy’
series.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Samsung has always featured in the top 5 Brands and for four consecutive
years has shown a steady movement to the top of the order gradually rising to the first rank in the

Japanese multinational conglomerate Sony has a history stretching back to 1946. The Brand entered
Indian markets, The company is one of the leading manufacturers of electronic products for the
consumer and professional markets. Known for it’s products in Audio, Computing, Photography Sony
has made quite an impact on the Indian consumers
TRUST COMMENTARY : Sony has maintained an average rank of 3.25, varying only within a range of 4
rank intervals with the lowest being rank 5 in 2012, and the best being rank 2 in 2014, the brand
showcases a steady performance having appeared in the top 5 ranks for four consecutive years,
however it has never ranked first.

Tata Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate company. It encompasses seven business sectors:
communications and information technology, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer
products and chemicals. Tata Group was founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata as a trading company
TRUST COMMENTARY : Tata’s Trust performance in the initial two years was at rank 2 then in 2013 it
fell by three places to rank 5 and this year it has risen to rank 3. This brand too has maintained its
position in the top five.

The second South Korean multinational electronics company to feature in the list LG operates its
business through five divisions: Mobile Communications, Home Entertainment, Home Appliances, Air
Conditioning, and Energy Solutions. It is the world's second-largest television manufacturer
TRUST COMMENTARY : LG fell to rank 10 in 2013 but other than this it has always maintained a
position of high trust ranging from the 4th rank in 2011 and 2014 and rank 3 in 2012.

Nokia, a Finnish communications and information technology multinational corporation was the
world's largest vendor of mobile phones from 1998 to 2012 however owing to its limited success in
smart phones (Nokia only has a 3.2% market share ) the consumer loyalties are seen shifting.
TRUST COMMENTARY : The brand sees a dramatic fall in trust as it loses its top position which it had
maintained over the last three years. Although the over all collective trust performance for the last
three years is still highest the difference between its closest competitor, and current category leader,
Samsung, seems to be narrowing at a rapid pace.

An American multinational information technology corporation, HP provides hardware, software and
services to consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises, including
customers in the government, health and education sectors.
TRUST COMMENTARY : With a stellar performance in 2014, HP pulls itself upward and forward into
the race moving dramatically into the top ten league, at a prestigious rank of 6, from its otherwise
relatively lower scores in the three years before all of which were ranging in the twenties. 20 in 2013,
22 in 2012 and 23 in 2011.

Hero Motocorp Ltd., formerly Hero Honda, is an Indian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer based
in New Delhi, India. The company is the largest two wheeler manufacturer in the world. In India, it has
a market share of about 46% share in 2-wheeler category.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Having dramatically risen from rank 86 in 2013, Hero as a brand has pulled
itself into the big league. It is the first brand which is not related to Consumer durables or electronics
and it has shown an impressive increase in trust from not being featured in 2011 to rank 70 in 2012
followed by an unfortunate fall of 16 places to rank 86 in 2013 and then a rise of 79 places.

Honda has been the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer since 1959,as well as the world's largest
manufacturer of internal combustion engines measured by volume, producing more than 14 million
internal combustion engines each year. Honda became the second-largest Japanese automobile
manufacturer in 2001. Honda was the eighth largest automobile manufacturer in the world.
TRUST COMMENTARY : After not making an appearance in the 2011 list ,Honda showcased in
impressive leap of 24 places from rank 35 in 2012 to rank 11 in 2013, it continues to increase in trust
with a rise of three places to rank 8 in 2014.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is an Indian conglomerate holding company. The company operates in
five major segments: exploration and production, refining and
marketing, petrochemicals, retail and telecommunications. RIL is the second-largest publicly traded
company in India by market capitalization and is the second largest company in India.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Reliance has always been in the top ten that being said it’s ranks range from
10 in 2012, its lowest to 6 in 2011 its highest. Rank in 2013 was at 7 from where it fell two places to
rank 9 in 2014.

The Mahindra & Mahindra is an Indian multinational conglomerate, with operations in over 100
countries across the globe. The group has a presence in aerospace, agribusiness, aftermarket,
automotive, components, construction equipment, defence, energy, farm equipment, finance and
insurance, industrial equipment, information technology, leisure and hospitality, logistics, real estate,
retail, and two wheelers.
TRUST COMMENTARY : M&M shows an impressive growth in trust in the year 2014, having been at
rank 79 in 2013 and 66 and 68 in 2012 and 2011 respectively.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, commonly referred to as Maruti and formerly known as Maruti Udyog
Limited, is an automobile manufacturer in India. It is a subsidiary of Japanese automobile and
motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Maruti Suzuki shows an improvement of 20 places to rank 11 from its fall
in 2013 where it fell by 31 places to rank 37, from rank 6 in 2012, before which it was at rank 7 in
2011.

Philips India Limited is a subsidiary of Royal Philips of the Netherlands, a diversified technology
company, focused on improving people’s lives through meaningful innovation in the areas
of Healthcare, Consumer Lifestyle and Lighting.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Philips’ rank movement keeps fluctuating. Ranked at 12 in 2014, the brand
has risen by 23 spots from 2013. It was ranked at 14 in 2012 which was a substantial improvement
on its performance in 2011 where the brand ranked at 25

Lux is a global brand developed by Unilever. The range of products includes beauty soaps, shower
gels, bath additives, hair shampoos and conditioners. Today, Lux is the market leader in several
countries including Pakistan, Brazil, India, Thailand and South Africa. Developed by Unilever, Lux
(soap) is now headquartered in Singapore.
TRUST COMMENTARY : One of the first notable sub brands in the listing Lux it has shown an
upward movement from 2011 where it ranked 24, the fell by 2 places in 2012 only to recover to
rank 15 in 2013 and since then it has risen two places to rank 13

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is an Indian state-owned insurance group and investment
company. It is the largest insurance company in India with an estimated asset value
of 1560481.84 crore (US$250 billion). As of 2013 it had total life fund of Rs.1433103.14 crore with
total value of policies sold of 367.82 lakh that year.
TRUST COMMENTARY : LIC has always enjoyed a high level of trust ranking initially in the top 10 at
rank 8 in both 2011 and 2012 from where it fell by 9 places in 2013 to rank 17. It ranks 14th in
2014.

Hyundai Motor India Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company (HMC).
HMIL is the largest passenger car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer in India. It
currently markets nine car models across segments.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Hyundai has a relatively low overall trust score. Initially it ranked at 43 in
2011 and fell by 40 ranks to rank 83 in2012, if fell further to rank 95 in 2013. In 2014 it has made
a remarkable recovery of 80 positions to rank 15.

The Godrej Group is an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, managed
and largely owned by the Godrej family. It was founded by Ardeshir Godrej and Pirojsha Godrej in 1897,
and operates in sectors as diverse as real estate, consumer products, industrial engineering, appliances,
furniture, security and agricultural products. Subsidiaries and affiliated companies include Godrej
Industries and its subsidiaries Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Agrovet, and Godrej Properties, as well
as the private holding company Godrej & Boyce.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Beginning at rank 22 in 2011 , Godrej rose by 11 ranks to rank 11, it rose further
to rank 6. It fell by 10 ranks to 16 in 2014.

consumer electronics and home appliances. From flat panel display with unique DDB technology,
refrigerators with advanced cooling system, washing machines and air conditioners; from glass shell

TRUST COMENTARY : Ranked at 17 Videocon had initially fallen by 9 ranks in 2011 where it stood at rank
42 to 51 in 2012. This gap was covered and surpassed in 2013 where it ranked at 25 further improving by
8 places to rank 17.

HCL Tech is a leading global Technology and IT Enterprise with annual revenues of US$ 6.4 billion. The 37
year old Enterprise, founded in 1976, is one of India's original IT garage start ups. Its range of offerings
span R&D and Technology Services, Enterprise and Applications Consulting, Remote Infrastructure
Management, BPO services, IT Hardware, Systems Integration and Distribution of Technology and Telecom
products in India.
TRUST COMMENTARY : HCL Tech shows remarkable growth in its most recent performance. It began at
rank 29 in 2011 and fell to rank 41 in 2012, it then fell 37 ranks more to rank 78 in 2013 from where it has
risen to rank 18 in 2014.

State Bank of India (SBI) is a multinational banking and financial services company based in India. It is
a government-owned corporation . As of December 2013, it had assets of US$388 billion and 16,000
branches, including 190 foreign offices, making it the largest banking and financial services company in
India by assets.
TRUST COMMENTARY : SBI shows a marked improvement from rank 50 in 2013 to rank 19 in 2014. In
2012 it stood at rank 19 falling 8 places from rank 11 in 2011.

Vodafone is a British multinational telecommunications company is the world's third-largest mobile
telecommunications company measured by both subscribers and 2011 revenues (in each case
behind China Mobile), and had 439 million subscribers as of December 2011. Vodafone owns and
operates networks in about 30 countries and has partner networks in over 40 additional countries.
Its Vodafone Global Enterprise division provides telecommunications and IT services to corporate clients
in over 65 countries.
TRUST COMMENARY : Vodafone has had a relatively medium score raging from 16 in 2011 which was its
best performance, to 41 in 2013. It was at rank 17 in rank 2012 and rank 20 in 2014.

Titan Company Ltd is an Indian designer and manufacturer of watches, jewellery, precision engineering
components and other accessories including sunglasses, wallets, bags and belts. It is a joint venture
between the Tata Group, and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation. Titan is the world's
fifth largest wrist watch manufacturer and exports watches to nearly 32 countries around the world.
Some of the well known brands of Titan include Fastrack, Sonata, Raga, Edge, Octane, Xylys, Titan Eye+
and Tanishq, Goldplus, Zoya.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Titan maintains its position at 21 in 2013 and 2014. It fell from its initial higher
rank at 10 in 2011 and 12 in 2012.

Idea Cellular is an Aditya Birla Group Company, India's first truly multinational corporation. Idea is a panIndia integrated GSM operator offering 2G and 3G services, and has its own NLD and ILD operations, and

of over 121 million in FY 2013, Idea is India’s 3rd largest mobile operator. Idea ranks among the Top 10
country operators in the world with a traffic of over 1.5 billion minutes a day.
TRUST COMMENTARY : The trust position oscillates between the lower 30s with rank 38 in 2011 ,
showing marked improvement to 18 in 2012 the falling again to 33 in 2013 and is at rank 22 in 2014.

Incorporated in 1925, Raymond Group is one of India's largest branded fabric and fashion retailers. It is
one of the leading, integrated producers of suiting fabric in the world, with a capacity of producing 31
million meters of wool & wool-blended fabrics. The Group has business interests in readymade garments,
fabrics and designer wear.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Raymond a leader of its category always has been in the 20s except in 2013
where it ranked at rank 51. It started with a rank 20 in 2011, falling by one rank in 2012 followed by the
30 rank fall. It has regained its trust in 2014 at rank 23.

The Whirlpool Corporation is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of home
appliances headquartered in Benton Charter Township, Michigan, United States, near Benton Harbor,
Michigan. The company has annual revenue of approximately $18.4 billion, more than 70,000 employees,
and more than 70 manufacturing and technology research centers around the world. The company
markets Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air,Amana, Gladiator GarageWorks, Inglis, Estate, Brastemp,
Bauknecht and Consul.
TRUST COMMENTARY : Whirlpool catapults itself in a newer league with its 2014 rank of 24, previously
having relatively lower ranks of 144 in 2013, and 112 in 2012, in 2011 however it was at 64.

TVS Group is an Indian diversified industrial conglomerate with its principal headquarters located
in Chennai and Coimbatore. Almost all holdings of the group are private. TVS Group, with group revenue
of more than USD 4 billion, is an automotive conglomerate company, specialized in manufacturing of twowheeler, three-wheeler, auto-electricals components, high tensile fasteners, die casting products, brakes,
wheels, tyres, axles, seating systems, fuel injection components, electronic and electrical components and
many more.
TRUST COMMENTARY : TVS has shown a marked improvement from rank 114 in 2013 to rank 25 in 2014,
Previously it ranked at 103 in 2012 and 54 in 2011.
