1. Lesson Plans for One Week Standard Indicator: 5.4.4.—Explain that in any particular environment, some kinds of plants and animals survive well, some do not survive as well, and some cannot survive at all. By: Breanne Sollman
2. MONDAY Activity: Divide students into groups, to observe and classify different pictures of animals. As a group, students will make inferences to describe the places and environments that they think these animals live. The class will then come together, and students will present their ideas to the rest of the class. Together, we will come to conclusions about where these animals live.
3. MONDAY Objective: To activate prior knowledge, the students will observe and classify animals, and make inferences to describe their environments.
5. TUESDAY Activity: Students will make their own individual plantand animal picture books. They will use either the internet or cameras to get pictures of different plants and animals. Students will then write a short caption under each picture about the plant/animal, what they eat, where they live, and whatever else they have found interesting. Students will be graded on the validity of the information in their plant and animal books.
6. TUESDAY Objective: Students will construct their own plant and animal picture book, by using what they have learned about different plants, animals, and they way they live.
8. WEDNESDAY Activity: Read a poem and listen to a song about habitats. Have a discussion about what a habitat is.With the students, brainstorm different types of habitats for plants, animals, humans, and insects. In pairs, students will create their own poem or rapabout a particular habitat. Students will then present these to the rest of the class.
9. WEDNESDAY Objective: To activate prior knowledge on poetry, studentswill create a poem or rap about a habitat of their choice.
11. THURSDAY Activity: In pairs, students will go outside and measureout a one meter by one meter square. Use a magnifying glass to closely examinethe plot of ground, and record everything thatthey see. Students can use digital cameras, or draw pictures of what they see. Students will find both the dominate plant and dominateanimals in the area. They will observe to see if thereis any evidence of humans in the plot. Students will make predictions about plants and animals in other areas of land. Students will be assessed by observation from the teacher. Students should be working together with their partner, and completing the task given.
12. THURSDAY Objective: Students will use their prior knowledge of habitatsto measure an area and examine which plants andanimals live in that area.
13. 14. FRIDAY Activity: With the same partner as the day before,students will repeat the measuring,examining, and recording in anotherarea of land. After collecting data,students will compare and contrast thetwo different areas. Students will comeback together as a group and discuss thedifferent types of plants/animals theyfound in their areas.
15. FRIDAY Objective: Students will compare and contrast data that they collect about plants and animals in different environments.
