Getting started with Bright Works
1. Getting started with Bright Works Simple steps to put you on the path to a great microvolunteering experience
2. Welcome to Bright Works! Please spend a few minutes going through this guide to learn some of the basics. We will introduce you to a number of useful Bright Works concepts that will help you start volunteering.
3. Before we dive in, here are a few terms that will be used throughout this guide: Task: A single action on Bright Works Project: A collection of tasks Account : Your username and password that allows you to volunteer from anywhere. Ready? Let's get started!
4. This is the Bright Works home screen, where you can see all of the projects and tasks available to you. There is a menu at the top with further options, as well as a sidebar on the right hand side with further details about tasks and projects.
5. To create a new Bright Works account, click on the 'Sign up' button in the top menu.
6. Clicking this link will open a new window where you can input your information and choose a username and password. Once you've filled in all of these fields, click Sign Up. This will create your account and immediately log you in with your new account.
7. Now that you've created an account, let's take a look at how projects work.
8. This is a project. All projects are available from the project menu and each project has its own url, so you can revisit your favourite projects at a later date. Each project has a description and a time estimate, showing how long it will take to complete all of the tasks in that project.
9. Clicking on the project will show you more boxes. These are tasks. Each task has a detailed description and an estimated time of completion, so you know what you're responsible for delivering and how long it will take in order to complete a task. If you see a task you want to complete, click the ‘I’ll do this’ button and you’ll have a set amount of time to complete the task.
10. You'll now see that you have claimed the task, as shown in the 'Pending' counter in the top right corner. It's now up to you to complete the task! If you clicked the button accidentally or have changed your mind, you can click 'Actually, I won't do it' to unclaim the task.
11. Once you've completed the task, click the 'I've done it' button. A notification will be sent to the creator of that task, who will then be able to verify that you have completed the task.
12. Once the task has been verified, it will be shown in the 'Done' counter in your profile, as well as the wider counter for all tasks completed on Bright Works. You can now complete more tasks on the project until all tasks has been completed, or you can start helping other projects by claiming new tasks elsewhere.
