BroadSign Everywhere - 2013 in Review

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Thank everyone for being present. Acknowledge those who attended last year’s First Annual Client Summit and tell them that we will be picking up from where we left off. Acknowledge those who are attending for the first time and tell them they’re in for a treat.- BroadSign decided to hold its first Client Summit as a way to bring people together from a variety of verticals, be they digital signage newbies or titans, in a space that encourages forward-thinking dialogue and information exchange. Respecting our company’s character, we also want the environment to be friendly and fun.
  2. - What exactly does BroadSign value and how does the company behave?- First and foremost, address the fact that we are a professional and profitable business. We have invested a great deal in our software, hardware and solutions, and know that they are the best available in the market. As a result, we stand by and take great pride in our offerings – and our customers have extremely successful networks.- Moreover, BroadSign is not just composed of our employees but is made of a vast group of BroadSigners, or people who are members of a community spanning over 200 networks. They are innovators and take the “work hard, play hard” concept to another level. They are forerunners, pacesetters and trailblazers. They also do this thing called BroadSigning – a light concept that is not taken lightly. People are BroadSigning when they work toward and achieve a goal. They’re BroadSigning when they embrace life and all of its opportunities. They’re even BroadSigning when they propose and support a new idea that is not accepted by others - that is, after all, how BroadSign’s SaaS platform began. Cue What is BroadSigning? videoWe’re going to be BroadSigning all day. While it’s up to you to determine the parts of your BroadSigning experience that will stay in Vegas, I’m sure you will continue to do so when you’re at home. Let us know what you’re up to by using #BroadSigning on Twitter.
  3. - At last year’s Client Summit, we celebrated the company’s 10 year anniversary and our rebranding efforts. We featured several guest speakers – one of which, Stephen Randall, is returning this year, and presented our own thoughts about the digital local revolution, the standardization of software platforms and the coming apps-plosion. The day was such a success that we held another sold out European Client Summit in London in June.- It was at this time last year that we also revealed our Android-based smart player, BroadSign Xpress. By the end of 2013, over 4,500 players have been sold across the globe and a waitlist remains in place.Since last year’s Client Summit, not to toot our own horn, we’ve been on a winning streak. We doubled our sales and just about doubled our subscription count, with our 50,000 subscription mark being passed in August. Our platform was designed to scale and we are thrilled to see our customers using it for just that. Throughout the year, I was also busy planning BroadSign’s next steps at the senior level. I decided that it was important to expand our already strong executive team by adding a Vice President of Finance, Bruno Dumais, and Chief Operating Officer, Jean Beaudry. Jean possesses extensive experience in software development and will strengthen BroadSign’s daily operations, giving me more time to focus on strategic growth opportunities that will help catapult BroadSign to new heights in the near future.- While changes are happening at BroadSign, there are also many big developments to look out for in the digital signage industry this upcoming year. Daniel Parisien, BroadSign’s VP of Marketing and Strategy, will be discussing these during his keynote in the afternoon.
  4. In addition to perfecting our digital signage solutions, the BroadSign team has been heavily expanding our portfolio to provide our customers and the industry with quality content. We exhibited at many trade shows and attended various conferences last year, such as DSE, OAAA, ISA Sign Expo, FEPE, European Sign Expo, Viscom Paris and DPb Media Week. We used these events to gather research and relay it to the greater public through blog articles, the Basics of BroadSigning video series and social media engagement. Our participation within and support of industry associations such as the Digital Signage Federation and Digital Place-based Advertising Association, is another way for us to learn about industry developments and deliver educational material to fellow members and our space at large. In 2013 we took a stand saying that we were all in on the DSF and DPAA, allocating our focus, efforts and attention to these two drivers of our industry. BroadSign has a board-level presence in these groups and our team is inspired to see how our contributions are reaching extended networks and lifting the industry to a higher standard. Speaking of industry drivers, last year marked the launch of our Leading Ladies series, that shares the stories of females who have made their mark on digital signage. One of our first Leading Ladies, Kim Sarubbi, will be presenting this morning.
  5. The exchange of information is so important to us that we created a 10 page Digital Signage 101 whitepaper, called Everybody’s DOOHing It, intended to share the secrets to establishing a successful digital signage network.Since it’s publication in September 2013, Everybody’s DOOHing It has generated well over 400 downloads. We see that you’re consuming this kind of material and will continue to produce whitepapers for your benefit.Available for download on BroadSign.com
  6. -Another popular report is related to our collaboration with the DPAA in creating the DiSi Standard. The report details the findings generated in our first industry-wide survey about network features and is available on BroadSign.com/DiSi.-If you haven’t heard of DiSi, I thought I would share this video with you to explain.-Cue DiSi Standard video
  7. -Our involvement with the DPAA has also led us to find that networks and agencies are hungry for a way to make digital place-based slots easy to buy and sell, and incorporate in group buys and cross-channel campaigns.- The 2013 DPAA Summit held during Digital Place-based Media Week generated necessary discussion about this topic and we were happy to be part of it.
  8. Talk about our first BroadSign Executive Forum, a day-long gathering held in Germany for a select group of healthcare network operators. The morning consisted of presentations and an informative speech by Health Media Networks’ Larry Newman, our guest of honour. After lunch, all in attendance were allocated individual discussion sessions with Larry, as well as BroadSign representatives. There was plenty of time to network and upon receiving very positive feedback, we plan to hold more BroadSign Executive Forums tailored to specific verticals this upcoming year.
  9. Finally, at last year’s Client Summit we announced the upgrade of our software platform to BroadSign X. This year, I will be the first to share with you an important preview of BroadSign X 10.3, which will be available in almost a month from today.BroadSign has long followed a model of practicing what we preach. There were two takeaway themes from last year’s Summit, being the Five Pillars of Accountability and the Apps-plosion. I’m proud to say that BroadSign will be helping to deliver these to you with BroadSign X 10.3.
  10. -BroadSign X 10.3 is an exciting upgrade because it delivers on our promises and focuses on making our customers’ networks more attractive to advertisers and agencies. Many of the features will allow for ease when scheduling richer ads and reporting them with greater analytical detail. In my opinion, four of this upgrade’s coolest features include two related to the pillars of accountability and another two that touch on smart content. With regards to accountability, BroadSign has deeply integrated with Quividi, the market leader in advanced camera-based audience measurement. This will allow for the collection of audience counts and the inclusion of these impressions into proof of play reports. It will also permit the triggering of content based on gender, meaning that ad copy will react and adapt to the demographics of the audience viewing a screen in real time. In addition, the campaign data capture feature enables users to collect any information they want from the system, such as lead capture or proof of purchase. As for the production of smart content, Chromium browser support will increase HTML5 compatibility and standardize our Windows and Linux browsers. Moreover, Native Application Support on Windows and Linux allows you to build your own software to run as content, which is great for kiosks, vending machines and interactive screens. That’s my two cents, but once you receive the feature highlights of this upgrade, you’ll be able to pick your own favourites.- Thank customers again and kick off the day by introducing Darren (refer to Transitions).
  11. One major concept was, and still is, the five pillars of accountability. These important touch points are craved by advertisers to render our space equivalent with other digital media, such as Internet advertising.
  12. We also forecasted the coming apps-plosion and have been talking a lot about it ever since. In a nutshell, the apps-plosion will occur once a few digital signage software platforms have become the standard for all networks. It will allow the proliferation of smart content and for people like you to create their own apps.
