Meet Summer Azul Co-Host to DJ. Tech of 91.1 Fm WRUW Hip Hop on the 216
Block as well as a accomplished Actress, Model, Host/Mistress of Ceremonies,
Rapper and also Radio Personality
$ilk: Where are you from?
Summer: I am from Cleveland, Ohio born and raised, and I have been rapping
since I was able to talk! Lol but I have been seriously recording in the studio for the
past 5 years and I started out simply trying to perfect my style and figure out
where I as an Artist would fit into the music industry. Once I became comfortable
with myself and my creations I began to put music out into the streets about 3 years

2. ago and it was a positive response.
$ilk: Can you Freestyle?
Summer: Yes I can freestyle, I play around with it on air
sometimes, and I always battle with close friends and family,
but I never actually entered any type of competition. I like
to freestyle for fun and for exercising to become a better
musician, not to make people know that I’m better than the
next rapper. To me, that takes the joy out of it!
$ilk: Who inspires you?
Summer: Tupac is my greatest influence when it comes to
music. His lyrics helped me out through many difficult
times in my life, and because of that I hope to do the same
for someone else through my words.
$ilk: Do you write all your songs?
Summer: YES! I write all my songs. There are 3 reasons for this. The first is
because I have a lot to say! Lol , Seriously I have been through a lot and music
relieves my pain, so I use it to express myself. The second reason is the fact that I
know that most Female artist do not write their own material and I think that that
sets us apart from male artist in a very bad way, because it makes it hard for
Females to be considered Real MC’S! The last reason is the fact that I know how
influential music can be to people, and if I as an artist have fans listening to my
every word, I would like for those words to actually be mines! I don’t want some
one to believe that I would say something that I really wouldn’t.
$ilk: Do you play any instruments?
Summer: I am in the process of learning the Electric Guitar now, but I do know
how to play a couple of African Drums, which I learned during a few African
Dance classes I took a while ago. I also aspire to learn the Piano and the Acoustic
Guitar as well.
$ilk: I heard you're a Actress?
Summer: I started to study Theater about 4 or 5 years ago. I am a trained actress
for both the stage and for the camera. I was always considered a natural actress,
but I decided to go to school and perfect my craft anyway. Shortly after I begin to
learn the techniques of becoming a successful actress, I began to audition for major
roles in plays. My credits include: “Hamlet“, “A Street Car Named Desire“, “One
Monkey Don’t Stop No Show“, “Jitney” and my favorite “BaBa King” which was
performed in Cleveland, at THE PLAY HOUSE. Because I wanted to be diverse in
my acting abilities, I made sure that each role was a total 360 image from the last.
The characters included everything from being a middle aged England woman to
being a 40 year old African Native to being a 13 year old child to being a 20 year
old Black girl from the hood. When it comes to the theater I really love to go all out
and be creative with my characters

3. $ilk: How many songs/Cd's do you have out?
Summer: I have written and recorded hundreds of songs, but I have only released
about 50 to the public via Mix-Tapes, singles and features. I have put out several
Mix-Tapes including “Hustle and Flow Vol.1 and 2“, “Young Fly and Bossy” (which
was my first) and my latest titled “I'm A Rock Star The Mix-Tape” I have also been
featured on countless other Mix-Tapes and albums of other artist and Mix-Tape's
around the world. (some in Africa, London, NY etc.)
$ilk: Who you roll with and makes up your crew?
Summer: Although I stay heavily affiliated with different groups, clicks and
organizations, I don’t really roll with a crew. I’m strictly an independent artist,
even recording and mixing my own material. I have been offered recording
contracts and memberships to certain companies, but I am still searching for a
major recording deal that can meet my standards. I don’t want to compromised as
an artist, so I choose to walk and not run.
$ilk: Have you ever been on T.V.?
Summer: I have been on several talk shows ( being interviewed as well as hosting),
two independent films (directed in Cleveland), a few Tri-C college affiliated short
films and I have also been broadcast a couple times on the news, some good and
some bad. I choose not to keep track of things like that, because I know as an
entertainer, there will always be media attention and all publicity is good publicity.
$ilk: Are you looking for a Record Deal?
Summer: Yes I am looking for a major recording deal, in order to broaden my fan
base and get more music out into the world. And I could use the pay checks too! Lol
$ilk: What's next?

4. Summer: I have a lot of things planned for myself and my career. I am working on
a couple of Modeling Competitions to be held in and around the Cleveland area.
{Hopefully to be traveled to other cities as well} I took a break from the theater, but
only for a few months in order to work on my musical performances, but I plan on
being back on stage by the Fall. I am currently working on my next Cd to be
dropped later this year and a possible music video as well.
$ilk: Last but not least what are your 5 year goals?
Summer: My 5 year goal is to be signed and distributed world wide with my music.
To be in a major Film on the big screen and to be able to change lives in a positive
way through entertainment.
