15. CGICE Finance and Administration Advisor (Volunteer)
I am a fifty-year-old woman who has worked for the International Crops Research
Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in the Finance Department at the
Zimbabwe Location for seventeen years. The ICRSAT Headquarters are in
Hyderabad, India.
The success of any donor dependant organization rests heavily on having the right staff
with lots of integrity and relevant experience in place at the right time. The continued
renewal of my annual contracts at ICRISAT for the past seventeen years bears witness
to my honesty, dedication, cumulated knowledge of and apt compliance with different
donor requirements. My association with ICRISAT has cultivated in me a strong
passion to work with organizations that expound and stand for preservation of
humanity.
I am a self-motivated person who has gone through informal education to acquire the
skills and knowledge that have enabled me to work in the Finance and Purchasing
Department of ICRISAT-Bulawayo, an international, agricultural research organization
based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe with Head Offices in Patancheru, India for seventeen
years now. In 1996, I became head of the Finance Division and in 1999 the location
grew in size from five scientists to twelve without a reciprocal growth in the service
department but I have managed to hold the fort.
With total responsibility for the financial accounting, fulfilment of donor requirements
and observing host government laws, my position at ICRISAT has exposed me to
handling big projects under donors like USAID, GTZ, CIDA and DFID. My years at
ICRISAT involved me in the running and the successful winding up of the Sorghum and
Millet Improvement Programme (SMIP) a huge programme which ran for almost twenty
years with the following donor commitments:-
USAID - US$40,910,000
CIDA - C$6,781,745
GTZ - DM1, 700,000
DFID - GBP641, 266.
ICRISAT still has on going projects under the same donors including the EU and FAO.
