Faith Brings the Best of The First! Slides, 7/18/10
1.
2. Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she
conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have
gotten a man with the help of the LORD.“ And
again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel
was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of
the ground. In the course of time Cain brought
to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the
ground, and Abel also brought of the firstborn
of his flock and of their fat portions.
3. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his
offering, but for Cain and his offering he had
no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face
fell. The LORD said to Cain, "Why are you
angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do
well, will you not be accepted? And if you do
not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its
desire is for you, but you must rule over it.“
Genesis 4:1-7 (ESV)
4. By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice
than Cain did. By faith he was commended as
a righteous man, when God spoke well of his
offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even
though he is dead.
Hebrews 11:4 (NIV)
5. When it was time for the harvest, Cain
presented some of his crops as a gift to the
Lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best of the
firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord
accepted Abel and his gift,
Genesis 4:3-4 (NLT)
6. FIRST:
Honor the LORD with your wealth and with
the firstfruits of all your produce;
Proverbs 3:9 (ESV)
THEN, vs. 10:
then your barns will be filled with plenty, and
your vats will be bursting with wine.
Proverbs 3:10 (ESV)
7. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that
there may be food in my house. Test me in
this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will
not throw open the floodgates of heaven and
pour out so much blessing that you will not
have room enough for it.
Malachi 3:10 (NIV)
8. Jesus sat down opposite the place where the
offerings were put and watched the crowd
putting their money into the temple treasury.
Many rich people threw in large amounts. But
a poor widow came and put in two very small
copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.
9. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell
you the truth, this poor widow has put more
into the treasury than all the others. They all
gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her
poverty, put in everything—all she had to live
on."
Mark 12:41-44 (NIV)
10. While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table
in the home of a man known as Simon the
Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of
very expensive perfume, made of pure nard.
She broke the jar and poured the perfume on
his head. Some of those present were saying
indignantly to one another, "Why this waste of
perfume? It could have been sold for more
than a year's wages and the money given to
the poor." And they rebuked her harshly.
11. "Leave her alone," said Jesus. "Why are you
bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing
to me. The poor you will always have with
you, and you can help them any time you
want. But you will not always have me. She
did what she could. She poured perfume on
my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.
I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is
preached throughout the world, what she has
done will also be told, in memory of her."
Mark 14:3-9 (NIV)
12. Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of
God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is
your spiritual act of worship.
Romans 12:1 (NIV)
